UT Astronomers Race To Capture Image of Exoplanet Near Star

Graduate students Kyle Franson at The University of Texas at Austin and William Balmer at Johns Hopkins University — had to race against the clock to capture an image of AF Lep b, a relatively young gas giant. That’s because it’s moving closer to its host star in its orbit. The closer it gets, the harder it will be to observe.

The Department of Psychology is pleased to share some outstanding news from the Buss Evolutionary Psychology Lab. William Costello, a Ph.D. student supervised by Dr. David Buss, has earned the International Academy of Sex Research (IASR) Best Student Manuscript Award for 2024.

Scientists Closing in on Answers About ‘Lost’ Prehistoric Cats of Natural Bridge Caverns

Last January, a team of cavers led by a paleontologist from UT Austin rappelled into two deep chambers at Natural Bridge Caverns to retrieve rare fossil finds: the bones of two small prehistoric cats. After recovering these small cat fossils, Jackson School of Geosciences doctoral student John Moretti is closing in on answers.

A new artificial intelligence model developed by researchers at The University of Texas at Austin paves the way for more effective and less toxic treatments and new preventive strategies in medicine. The AI model informs the design of protein-based therapies and vaccines by leveraging the underlying logic from nature’s evolutionary processes.
