Ronald Reagan Day

WHEREAS, President Ronald Wilson Reagan was a prominent leader who was dedicated to representing American values on a global scale; and

WHEREAS, President Reagan served for two terms as the 40th President of the United States, reshaping national politics with his vision to transform America into a stronger, safer, more prosperous, and more unified Nation; and

WHEREAS, when President Reagan was inaugurated, the Nation was disillusioned by rampant inflation, high unemployment, and tense relations with the Soviet Union. President Reagan devoted significant resources to reducing federal spending, taxes, and the national deficit, as well as to strengthening our national defense and security, revitalizing the Nation in one of the longest economic expansions in American history; and

WHEREAS, President Reagan’s vision of “peace through strength” and diligent negotiation with Soviet Statesman Mikhail Gorbachev led to the creation of the 1987 Intermediate Nuclear Forces Treaty, eventually resulting in the end of the Cold War; and

WHEREAS, the legacy of Ronald Reagan is one of hope, faith, and vision of a better American future. Today, we honor the 113th anniversary of President Reagan’s birth.

NOW THEREFORE, I, Mike Dunleavy, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF ALASKA, do hereby proclaim February 6, 2024 as:
