Emoji notification for author #3285
Comments
I don't believe Slack does it. I think in Slack/GitHub/etc., the point of emoji reactions (vs. just sending a reply with an emoji in the reply) is to respond without triggering a notification to the other participants on the thread. I guess I can see a case for wanting a notification about reactions to messages you yourself sent, though (but not have those notifications go to other folks). I'd like to get more feedback on this question and the use cases involved; I can imagine wanting an easy way to narrow to your messages with emoji reactions on them being something folks want. |
If Zulip is a chat tool for developers, I don't think the author would like to be notified about the reactions but if yeah a checkbox could be added to streams setting to enable or disable reaction notification So I'd say that adding an extra feature would increase the number of features Zulip supports, therefore improving the product. On my opinion this may be be implemented using a checkbox |
There a lot of product managers that would argue that sometimes adding new features can make a product worse :). If someone wants to work on this direction, I'd probably started with adding a narrow, since I think that would be fairly easy and useful. Maybe |
@timabbott The notification on emoji would make the communication simpler and more efficient. |
This issues looks like related to #14869. |
Like @wolfsonchuang suggested: Cause in my zulip at work the emoji is always used when a yes/no question is raised. |
I asked for something like this at https://chat.zulip.org/#narrow/stream/137-feedback/topic/I.20want.20to.20be.20able.20to.20see.20all.20reactions For myself, the important part isn't notification so much as being able to see all the reactions in aggregate. This is how Slack does it (in response to @timabbott's comment above.) |
My users have requested this too. An opt in feature to be able to get notified when someone reacts to your post would be great. Many people post something in our group, get lots of "likes" but the original poster never gets notified because there was no need to respond anything but a thumbs up or other confirming emoji.. |
Tim wrote above (back in 2017):
Yeah, I think that last is the key point. A reaction still doesn't bump the thread for everyone else, but it gives feedback for the one person who sent the message you're reacting to. I often feel like I miss signals from reactions — I happen across some thread a while later, and only then see that people reacted to one of my messages. Conversely, sometimes I find myself manually going and looking back at a thread to see if there are reactions. This feature would make sure those signals don't get dropped. |
Fully agree... much needed! |
Hello! |
I have the same situation that has been written about before. I have to go to a topic to see how people reacted to my suggestion or idea. The fact that I am left in the dark makes me tense. |
Now that Zulip supports reactions to a message, would it make sense to notify authors about the reaction to their post? The notification is available on FB and Twitter. I am not aware of slack.
