I found this while debugging... the corresponding regex in the Validator class is explicit:
preg_match('/^ *hsla\( *\d{1,3} *, *\d{1,3}%? *, *\d{1,3}%? *, *[0-1](\.\d{1,2})? *\) *$/i', $string)
