My proposal would be to add widgets as part of master which besides providing floating views functionality also implements various controls and easier approach to writing gui stuff, some examples floating and non floating:

Floating non blocking message boxes:

A bottom notebook we could add with some tabs as a base for adding additional functionality on the editor like build and linting messages, etc... which could be used by plugin authors to more easily display some information and not rely solely on the statusview, commandview or log system. If this was part of the lite-xl I would feel more motivated using it with LSP to display linting messages with controls to easily filter them by type.

Also I use widgets for the find workspace symbols functionality of LSP plugin:

Since the beginning the idea of this widgets system was to be merged into lite-xl to:

allow more easily writing gui stuff and not having to reinvent the wheel every time
writing a settings gui with support for plugin config options which I started but got swallowed with other things
give plugin writers a more accessible approach to adding gui stuff

Besides, having this functionality as a separate plugin makes it harder for other people to discover and use. And been on lite-xl master means it would also receive more testing and contribution from others to make it event better or get even more widget controls, so everybody benefits.
