Updating existing site text
If someone tells you that some text on some page of the website needs to be updated, here's what you need to do. As of time of writing, you essentially refers to Alex. If Hui Jing's backup is no longer Alex, this page will be updated.
In the grand scheme of things, you should ask the requester if it really cannot wait until Hui Jing gets back from vacation. If Hui Jing does not actually come back from vacation, first of all, you receive an apology for the inconvenience caused.
If the requester is Anna, you will get the updated content in this document: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1RI4fzz-4oPKXVdxBeS1_thoaVglGeKGHnX6zoFHnx6s/edit. A suggestion is to make use of the version history feature.
From there, you can most likely discerned what is the content that needs updating.
-
Login to the Drupal backend. We are not disclosing the URL here because we have been hit by bot spam on the login.
-
Figure out what page the content lives on. The format on the Google Doc should be a mirror of the information architecture on the site so if the update was on the Get involved section of the Google Doc, then that's the page on the site that needs updating.
-
Go to the page on the website and click on "Layout".
-
Unfortunately, you won't be able to directly link to the content block that holds the content. Instead, identify the title of the content block which you need to update.
-
Click on "Content" in the toolbar.
-
Search for the content block in the Filter.
-
Click on "Edit" in the far right.
-
Depending on what content type required updating, who knows which fields you're going to be dealing with. Hopefully it's nothing too complicated. If images are involved, please consult Madalina, and remember to optimise the image before uploading.
-
After everything is done, click "Save"
-
Double check the page to see that all the changes are made to your satisfaction.
-
If all looks good, invalidate the Cloudfront cache on AWS. This page assumes you know how to do this.
