xml-muncher
processes potentially humongous XML documents and extracts the elements you're interested in without blowing up your memory usage. It builds on top of node-expat
and provides a simple event-based API to retrieve just the data you care about.
import XMLMuncher from "xml-muncher";
/* Create an instance of XML Muncher. */
const muncher = new XMLMuncher();
/* Ask it to extract elements at specific paths. */
muncher.on("path://items/item", (item) => {
console.log(item.title);
});
/* Alternatively, you can ask it to extract elements of a specific
name, regardless of their location in the feed. */
muncher.on("element:user", (user) => {
console.log(user.name);
});
await muncher.munchFile("very_large_file.xml");
- Flesh out documentation
- Allow the munching to be paused and resumed
- Provide an async iterator that yields extracted items
