As noted in #113 we need systems for everything in the house
to ensure that newpeopleimmediately understand what needs to be done.
Sadly, the lady who helps with cleaning the house totally ignores (forgets) verbal instructions
and thus ends up wasting a lot of time each week.
This was noted in: #226 where she was wasting ~30mins/week on emptying recycling bins ... ⌛ 💰 🔥
With the dishwashers the amount of time being wasted is similar ...
Simply because she is individually hand-drying items with a dish cloth before storing them.
This is the very definition of creating work that doesn't need to exist.
If the dishwasher is simply left open after it has run while still hot everything air dries quickly.
But the cleaning lady refuses to follow my instruction to leave the dishwasher door open when the cycle ends
and continues to waste time hand-drying ... it's immensely painful to watch and even more to think about.
But let's think about it for a minute:
With only a handful of people in the house she only empties the dishwasher 3-5 times per week.
Used to take her roughly 10 minutes to empty the dishwasher depending on how many items and the kind ...
This has come down a bit due to the Drinking Glass Shelf #259 (comment)
It takes me less than T5m to empty the dishwasher because I carry multiple similar items at at once
by contrast the cleaning lady takes one item per "trip", painfully slowly drying each item ...
When we have more people in the house there will be multiple dishwasher cycles each day.
The problem will compound quickly and cost us real money daily/monthly/yearly!
Note: I usually try to empty the dishwasher in the mornings when I'm preparing children's breakfast
because it bugs me so much to watch her waste the time ...
but it's considerably more "expensive" for me to do it because my time is certainly not worth "minimum wage" ...
We need a system.

So ... I'm thinking of making a mini sign to remind the cleaning person and any newpeople
what our system for dishwasher emptying is.
@iteles please read through the proposed copy for the sign: (thanks!) 🙏
EN: 🇬🇧
When the dishwasher cycle ends
Open the door and leave
air drying …
Remove and store sharp knives immediately.
Never dry dishes or cutlery with a towel;
it is less hygienic and wastes time!
PT: 🇵🇹
Ao terminar o programa de lavagem
Abra a porta da máquina e deixe
a secar ao ar …
Arrume as facas afiadas immediatamente.
Nunca secar loiça new talheres com toalha;
é menos higiênico e desperdiça tempo
This will not solve the problem for our current cleaning lady who both you and I have told multiple times not to do this. It will just offend her. But a system is always positive.
I couldn't edit your google doc, let me know if you want me to edit your text above:
Abrir a porta da máquina _logo que acabe o programa_ e
retirar as facas afiadas imediatamente.
Deixar o resto da loiça a
a secar ao ar …
Não secar loiça à mão;
é menos higiénico e desnecessário.
