Since a few weeks ago, COPY
hasn't been working if the source file is a relative symbolic link. buildah bud ...
fails with secure join: too many levels of symbolic links
.
This used to work earlier. Both Buildah 1.11.3 and 1.11.4 have this issue. Even though it looks similar to #1854, the failure mode seems different.
For example, try one of the Dockerfiles in toolbox.git:
$ ls -l images/fedora/f31
total 12
-rw-rw-r--. 1 rishi rishi 724 Oct 29 17:23 Dockerfile
-rw-rw-r--. 1 rishi rishi 318 Oct 14 19:39 extra-packages
-rw-rw-r--. 1 rishi rishi 133 Sep 9 19:47 missing-docs
lrwxrwxrwx. 1 rishi rishi 18 Sep 9 19:47 README.md -> ../../../README.md
The build fails with:
$ buildah bud --squash --tag fubar images/fedora/f31
STEP 1: FROM registry.fedoraproject.org/fedora:31
STEP 2: ENV NAME=fedora-toolbox VERSION=31
STEP 3: LABEL com.github.debarshiray.toolbox="true" com.redhat.component="$NAME" name="$FGC/$NAME" version="$VERSION" usage="This image is meant to be used with the toolbox command" summary="Base image for creating Fedora toolbox containers" maintainer="Debarshi Ray <rishi@fedoraproject.org>"
STEP 4: COPY README.md /
error building at STEP "COPY README.md /": secure join: too many levels of symbolic links
ERRO exit status 1
