I have searched the issue tracker and I haven't found feature request like this
Type
New feature
Describe the feature
For those that run their own private instance, it would be useful to allow the "Popular" feed to come from a separate public instance.
"Popular" for my private instance is pointless since it only shows what I'm already watching. But the "Popular" feed that comes back from public instances does seem useful for recommendations.
I have not found "Trending" useful, I'm guessing because it's based on the watch habits of the entire Youtube population, so too general of a user-base.
One simple way to implement this might be to just add a configuration setting for "Instance override for Popular feed" that would apply to only the "Popular" feed.
Or @stonerl suggested the idea of having a "trending view where you can choose the popular feed from an instance"
