Usually when you update a URLSegment, navigating to the old one will redirect to the new one. At least I'm assuming this still works in SS4. It's a nice little feature, especially when you have already shared an article and aftwards correct a typo in the URL.
Unfortunately, Fluent does not support this. I assume due to the custom Direction.
Is this something that could be considered (regardless of how complicated it is)?
