So, the current way things work is that the chat needs to be re-linked every time the devices get disconnected, requiring the user to take a photo of the QR code on screen. This is annoying at the very least, especially when my phone is charging on the other side of the room, and it feels like I'm being punished for being a Desktop user. I get it's probably for security but there has to be a better way to do this.
I've been using Signal for about a decade or more at this point, as it was easier for me to get my friends on it and was better than the rest. The way that works is about the same, but you can still use both (sort of like OMEMO for XMPP.) If the desktop app isn't used for some time (I'm not sure how long, but it's a good while) they will unlink themselves.
Is there a technical reason this can't be done? Because I think having both work in unison would be way better. This may even prevent some from using the app in the first place. This is why I can get my friends on the other app instead of this one, because the majority of people will often sacrifice security and privacy for convenience every time. I suppose you could say they deserve neither, but then I still need to communicate with them :(
Finally a question. Assuming you guys don't want to make it any easier, how feasible would it be to use two different accounts for mobile and desktop, and then create a group chat between me, myself, and the party I want to communicate with?

it's done this way for security reasons, once a way is found to do it without sacrificing security too much, it will be done

I understand that advertising devices in even local network, is a no-go, because we never know who can be listening.
What about permitting device advertising & discovery inside wireguard / tailscale networks?
Just find a way to reliably identify wg interfaces on target platforms & only advertise in these networks.
Is there an existing issue for this?
