Many of the python library versions, as well as the Python runtime version, are quite old. This not only presents security vulnerabilities but also makes it difficult to install new packages, because we have to find older versions of those packages which are compatible with our current set of pins.

We are currently running on Python 3.6 which reached EOL in 2021.
