FYI, I did get this worked out the other day. The bug does still exist, but I've since moved on. |

The issue you're encountering seems to be related to the authentication
process between VS Code and GitHub. Here's a step-by-step guide to
troubleshoot and resolve this problem:
1.
*Ensure Correct SSH Key Setup*:
- Verify that your SSH key is correctly added to your GitHub account.
- Open a terminal and run ssh -T ***@***.*** to check the
authentication status.
2.
*Reconfigure VS Code Authentication*:
- Open VS Code.
- Go to the settings by clicking the gear icon in the lower left
corner and selecting "Settings".
- Search for "GitHub Authentication".
- Ensure that the GitHub authentication settings are properly
configured.
3.
*Clear Authentication Data*:
- Open the command palette in VS Code (Ctrl+Shift+P or Cmd+Shift+P on
Mac).
- Type "Sign out of GitHub" and select the command to clear any old
authentication data.
- Sign in again using the "Sign in with GitHub" option.
4.
*Manual Authentication*:
- If automatic redirection fails, try authenticating manually.
- Open the URL provided in a web browser.
- Complete the authentication process there and copy any code
provided back into VS Code if prompted.
5.
*Check Network and Proxy Settings*:
- Ensure that your network connection is stable.
- Check if any firewall or proxy settings might be blocking the
authentication process.
6.
*Update VS Code*:
- Make sure you are using the latest version of VS Code.
- Sometimes, updating to the latest version can resolve such issues.
7.
*Browser Compatibility*:
- If you're using an older or less common web browser, try switching
to a more common one like Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox.
If you still face issues, you might consider checking the GitHub
Community Discussions <https://github.community/> or the VS Code GitHub
Issues page <https://github.com/microsoft/vscode/issues> for more
detailed assistance.

I successfully got here again:
ssh -T git@github.com Hi <me>! You've successfully authenticated, but GitHub does not provide shell access.
This is the URL it sent me to after I attempted to set up an SSH key and authenticate to github after closing VS Code and starting again:
