#I'd appreciate some clarification on the material.io/color tool, and its export command to codepen.
This codepen uses 0.8.0 of MDC, creates a ton of custom color rules, but does not use any of the CSS variables that are part of MDC's theme component.
Was this just a proof of concept for someone at Google?

Thanks for bringing this to our attention!
It's definitely not intentional. We should update the tool to point to the
latest
version instead.aaronhudon commentedon Jan 18, 2018
@acdvorak Thanks for the reply, can you also comment on the fact the tool does not use the MDC css theme variables, but simply overrides colors per-component?

Sorry, I think we're confusing two things in this thread. @acdvorak is referring to https://codepen.io/traviskaufman/pen/pNQmRp, but @aaronhudon is referring to the codepen exported by material.io/color.
There is a team at Google that maintains the color tool, but they also maintain the entire Material Design spec. The color tool is out of date. We've brought this to their attention, but the fix is non-trivial. So it will be sometime before material.io/color uses the latest MDC Web code.
I'll leave this bug open in case we get any more information we can share.
