Just thought I'd make a little bit of a mega post about what I personally believe this HUD could improve upon. A lot of this post will be personal opinion so if you disagree that's totally fine! But I do have a couple of bugs as well that I'd like to point out. I'll just start rattling these off in bullet points;
Suggestions
The startup of the game takes a really long time, but this problem appears to be a duplicate of Not really a bug BUT something I find causes problems #24. Also opening any tab in the customization menu creates a massive freeze spike for around 5-10 seconds before the menu opens, but that's probably just a source engine problem tbh
There's this big gap between the Casual map browser and the side of the screen, which is really off-putting to me
- Following onto this, there's some sort of weird problem where if you open the competitive tab then all other tabs render below it? The Casual tab is also still able to be interacted with
For a HUD designed for "Long play sessions" I feel that it should be simple and easy to look at/read, however I feel that the item and backpack quality borders are a bit too much for my eyes. Compare the quality borders of the inventory to VoidHUD, I personally believe that VoidHUD is much easier to look at and easier to read the item text. I did a little tinkering in a photo editor and I got a result that could be nicer [3rd image down] (You'd have to move the paint and strange icons down a little bit). Also I find it a bit weird that BLU comes before RED from left to right in the team color selection since the loadout menu always starts with a red player.
- The change I'm suggesting above doesn't have to be the end-all, It could be a manual customization option (like move a folder here, etc)
I actually like being able to see my playermodel in the class selection screen, so that would be a nice change. Not a massively sized playermodel though.
In game, I think the killstreak numbers are a little bit low for the star icon next to them, so probably move the star down a bit. I also believe that the match hud could be a little bit nicer if the white line above the player icon wasn't there, and the health bar was just a little bit bigger.
Bugs
The item meter text is too low in the bar
Adding onto this as a side note of the previous section, I think the item meter bars are a little too thick
The Crosshair and Hitmarker sections of the customizations menu were non-existant for some reason despite the other menus working?
I'm pretty sure these are all linux related, in which case my OS is Arch Linux
Ignore all the weird crosshair stuff in those photos I actually have no idea what's going on with that, I tried using the crosshair clear alias but it didn't do anything
Sorry if this sound all really negative, there are a lot of aspects of this hud that I do quite like, but these are just some things that are holding me back from possibly making a switch (Along with there being no display for your disguise as spy, but it seems that issue was probably already listed in #30, but that one talks about the model, whereas I'm talking about the text display).
