Okay,
I have good news and a lot of bad news. Hopefully, with your help, the bad news can be turned into good news. First, I am experienced with Linux and the open source community and have learned how to resolve common issues with Linux and other things in relation to it. I've also learned how to use VPN's, Tor, and other stuff on Linux. But I'm not a developer by any stretch of the imagination. Although I've been using Linux since 2016 (My first distro ever installed was PureOS which was a nightmare of an experience. I currently use ZorinOS), I haven't a clue about programming languages, building apps from source code, or any of that jazz.
Secondly, as much of a pain in the ass as it is, I love learning new things. Sure, I could hire someone to do all the technical stuff for me, but I'd rather learn how to do it on my own so I know beyond all reasonable doubt that everything was done thoroughly and correctly as well as fix any issues in the future if anything bad happens. Which leads me to the reason why I'm writing you in the first place...
What I want to do is start my own streaming channel on Roku using an open source CDN or OVP. I already have the movies and TV shows (as well as the permissions to broadcast them) but according to Roku there's a lot of steps that I need to take in order to make my new channel a reality. My budget is also limited which is another reason why I'm searching for an open source alternative (The main reason is that most open source projects are decentralized, respect user privacy, and engage the absolute best security measures).
Again, I have no coding experience whatsoever other than a little experience with the Terminal, but even that is limited to step-by-step instructions so that I don't mess up my operating system.
On my other computer, the one I'm using now, I'm running the latest version of Windows 11 Pro. This is the computer I'll be setting everything up on.
According to Roku, I need a video hosting platform such as a CDN or OVP and I'll need to setup a Direct Publisher Feed via JSON or MRSS. I'm not sure if I'll need a website or not at this point, but I'm sure it would make sense to have one.
Thus, I'm hoping that someone here would be willing to take the time to explain how this process works, how to do everything, and how to get everything up and running. I'm hoping that this someone will explain everything in the most detailed of steps and written in a way that's easy to understand (I'm 42 years old...lol). I'm not worried about time. I'm in no rush (I'm currently sharing movies and shows with my friends and family using Plex Media Server which was easy as pie. Actually, easier than pie. Had it up and running in less than 5 minutes).
And, although I don't have the financial resources to compensate anyone at the moment for their help, I am confident that once my channel is up and running, that I will generously support cdnjs...indefinitely.
If it helps, I've already secured licensing from Lionsgate Entertainment, Blackrock Entertainment, Warner Bros., and MGM as well as certain programming from NBC and ABC Studios in America. The sooner my Roku channel goes live, the sooner we can all benefit from its success.
Thank you all for your generous help, guidance, and support. Be safe, be kind, be well.
Johnathon Horner
