Yeah, I don't see any mention of what you're asking for in https://github.com/mikebrady/shairport-sync so that's the place to ask for integration/addition.
Unless you can point to a lib/dependency in balena that normally includes it?

I can confirm, that AptX and AAC doesn't work. Only SBC works.

Check out the audio block from balena's github page, build it and use it in this project with the changes I mentioned
