Para generar una innovación real y disruptiva hay que romper las reglas, de lo contrario vamos a llegar al mismo lugar. Hay que tener un ojbetivo claro y cuál es el impacto que queremos generar (previo análisis de las tendencias que están impactando el mercado) e involucrar a los diferentes stakeholders para movernos en la misma dirección. Por ejemplo, si marketing quiere innovar en empaque, no basta un buen diseño si procurement no encuentra proveedores al costo deseado, si manufactura no puede procesarlo y si distribución no puede enviarlo al punto de venta. Todos deben romper, o mejor dicho, realinear las reglas para lograr el éxito de éste o cualqueir proyecto.

Your parents might want simple, traditional designs, while you want something modern and colorful. To make everyone happy, you take their ideas into account, like keeping some traditional elements, but also adding your own creative touches, like bright colors or cool furniture. In product development, it's the same. You listen to what stakeholders (like parents) want, but also let your creativity (your own style) flow. By blending both, you can create something that works for everyone—both practical and unique.

My team embraced design thinking to balance stakeholder input and creativity in product ideation, starting with empathy. We engaged stakeholders in workshops, gathering diverse perspectives and defining critical user needs. Through brainstorming sessions, we encouraged wild ideas, fostering creativity without constraints. Prototyping followed, creating tangible models to test concepts. With iterative feedback loops, stakeholders and users evaluated these prototypes, ensuring alignment and innovation. This collaborative process honed our problem-solving skills, allowing us to refine solutions that met user needs and stakeholder expectations. The result was a user-centered, innovative product that harmonized all inputs.

Identifying the challenge or the opportunity is where we start collecting cross functional stakeholder inputs. We gather insights that can unlock this challenge or opportunity, and this is where we start to infuse some creativity vs. just facts. Data is key, but also qualitative insights. I bring in mixologists, personal trainers, chefs and many more to my ideation workshops because their insight is at another level, more intuitive related to consumer behavior. In ideation workshops, we always start expansive, more creative flow in the first few hours. Then we go reductive, this is where we bring in the business perspective. We help manage stakeholders. External facilitator can positively challenge internal teams more than you can.
