Our Commitment to Vermont’s Forests

At the Vermont Department of Forests, Parks, and Recreation, we are dedicated to promoting healthy forests and managing resilient landscapes on both public and private lands. Our mission at the Division of Forests is to protect and sustain Vermont’s forests in partnership with its citizens by promoting best practices, sustainable use, and respect for the land.

Through a range of programs, we:

  • Manage state-owned lands to ensure long-term forest health.

  • Monitor forest health statewide to address emerging challenges.

  • Empower private landowners to become effective stewards of their woodlands.

  • Promote urban and community forestry for greener, healthier cities and towns.

  • Prevent disease outbreaks and wildfires to protect our forests from large-scale threats.

  • Support Vermont’s wood-using industries and sustainable forest-based economic growth.

  • Provide educational opportunities for all ages to foster a deeper understanding of sustainable forestry.

Our success is built on strong partnerships with landowners, communities, and organizations, all working together to create a resilient and thriving landscape for current and future generations.
