79-year-old man killed on I-95 in Brevard County after tire ruptures: FHP

Stream FOX 35:

A 79-year-old man was ejected and killed from his pickup truck after a tire ruptured along Interstate 95 in Brevard County on Tuesday morning, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

The incident happened at around 11:45 a.m. on the northbound lanes near mile marker 204 in Cocoa, troopers said.

The man was driving a 2005 Nissan Titan on I-95 when the back left tire reportedly ruptured. That's when the driver overcorrected – and his pickup truck flipped over before landing on the driver's side in the grass along the side of the highway, according to troopers.

The driver was ejected from the truck before being airlifted to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The passenger, a 47-year-old woman, was not injured, according to a report from Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash remains under investigation.
