Dear all,

we are happy to announce the immediate availability of a new patch for SpectraLayers 11, version 11.0.20.

This update introduces several improvements and issue resolutions throughout the application.

The installers are available for download from the Steinberg website and via the Steinberg Download Assistant .

For a detailed list of improvements and issue resolutions, please refer to the Release Notes.

All the best,

It would be nice if there was an update patch (WIN) rather than a full 1.2gb download (again)

Is such size still an issue these days ?

internal SSD storage wise, every gb saved is a good thing. Why DL/Save a 1.2gb file if 300mb (or less) would suffice? Plus, having an update would show up in Steinberg Download assistant as such, the full program doesn’t show up and anything to make that makes the update process easier is a good thing. There’s an inconsistency in the Steinberg update process and that’s not good either. I had a update showing for another program yesterday but NOTHING showing for SpectraLayers (when 11.0.20 was available).

SSDs are usually Terabyte size, so this is typically no argument anymore. Even if the internal SSD is small and full, the SDA can be configured to save automatically to an external disk. I have a 4TB USB disk, where releases since 2020 are stored and there is still tons of space.

Not always, but there are areas in the world where download speed is still a limiting factor, especially together with a limitation in the amount of data.

I have a fibre optics connection so I don’t care, but a good friend of mine, living app. 25 kilometers away is still on a 16 Gbit/s DSL line. Downloading 1.2 Gigabyte is a challenge for him.

So imho the limitation today is not disk size, but download speed and allowed rate of data per month. This still can get really expensive.

Every update/full program has always shown up in Steinberg’s download manager.
That’s how I always update and that goes for 11.0.20 yesterday as well.

While it may show in the “My product downloads” it does not show up in the “updates” tab as other Steinberg products do. It’s inconsistent.

I live out in the French countryside. We struggled for a decade with 1.5Mbps ADSL which was often non-functional. We barely get 4G…and are in a spot 5G isn’t planned to reach. DLs were awful, streaming pretty much impossible…but Uploads were torture at 700Kbps…

About 5 years ago the gov’t installed fibre…but they put it in the air on poles. My missus was furious. After working in TV for her entire career, she knew fibre on poles is a recipe for disaster…and it is.

We tried satellite…45-60Mbps off peak…but in peak hrs, 1.5Mbps ADSL was actually better.

Then she heard about StarLink and got in early on the beta and we got it within a couple months.

I just checked speed right now in peak hours and get 160Mbps down/ 10Mbps up. With heavy cloud cover, it will lose connection…but the speed gains are totally worth it. I’ve realized 250+Mbps DL at times.

I just went looking in the steinberg support area and it was there…I did not try DLM

Good Morning
well I found update 11.020 and the file has been 1.59 Gb
I have the fiber and so is not really an issue.
However what is not clear was which kind of update has been made.
No explanation, no information and most important no documentation updated .
I did the update but would be nice to know what has been updated.
Thanks if anyone knows

I agree that this seems like a full reinstall, not an update, the update/changes cannot be worth 1.5GB of data from the last version!
There are people on slower connections even in developed countries due to various reasons, waste of data transfer if the actual update is only maybe 10MB!

@Robin_Lobel thanks a lot for reintroducing the tolerance at the transient tool!

For me the new version didn’t show up as an “update” in the Download Manager as well.
