I have crossgraded from Finale, but cannot activate Dorico because when I enter the activation code it says “The currently installed version of the eLicenser Control software is too old” . Even though I just installed it I tried downloading it again and saw something that it does not work right with 64 bit Windows 11, which is what is on my computer. So how do I activate the product I purchased?
This is really frustrating!!!

Welcome BobS!

Dorico stopped using eLicenser a couple versions ago. You should be activating with Steinberg Activation Manager.

OK, I tried a few things and got more frustrated until in the activation manager I selected " redeem activation code" – not the license code – and finally was able to start Dorico after being told to use the elicenser. The instructions for activating Dorico are (as is obvious from my post) very confusing and do not use the same terms when instructing how to license the product. Hopefully, using Dorico will not be as frustrating or time wasting as the installation process. Not a good start for me with a new product!

Really sorry to hear that you had a bad time of activating Dorico, @BobS. For anybody who finds this thread in future, this video shows you everything you need to do:
