I’m just updating to Dorico 5 from 3.5 on MacOS 14.6.1. When I originally used Dorico it required the elicenser to be connected when running. Now I think I can run the app without it connected. Is this correct? I’m wondering if I need to make sure I’m carrying it around for my laptop or not. Not a huge deal if I do, but I’ve lost the usb thing before–don’t want to run into that problem again.

Welcome to the Forum.

Since Dorico 4 there is no eLicenser required anymore. The Activation of your license is done in the Activation Manager and you can do that on Up to three systems at the same time.

However, you need th eLicenser connected a last time to do the upgrade, because the license on the dongle will be marked as upgraded.

Even after the Upgrade you can still use Dorico 3.5, by just connecting the dongle again (if needed for some reason)

Thank you! My learning curve from Finale is going to steep, so I’m appreciating these forums and all of your helpful answers.
