Hello folks
Recently bought the discounted upgrade from Cubase 12 to Cubase 13. I am thinking of keeping it unactivated until the possible grace period around a future Cubase 14 release - to take advantage of the automatic bump up to 14.
First of all… does that mischievous little process still work? Maybe things change because of the licensing changes? What do you think?
Secondly… I see if I have a registered copy of C13, then I will qualify for a 70% of Dorico.
Despite some workflow showstoppers that I would have to really struggle to find a way around, I would quite like Dorico.
I have a terrible maths brain. What do you think makes the most economic sense:
Letting my C13 linger unactivated for now and eventually (hopefully) netting a ‘free’ bump up to C14? And perhaps buying Dorico with the current 50% discount?
OR
Activating C13 now, getting Dorico for 70% discount, and then maybe paying whatever to update to C14 in a year or so?

What do you reckon?

Thanks

Dorico at 50% is £212 Assume C14 is free = £212
Dorico at 70% is £127, C13 update is £169 = 295

So Dorico at 50% is best price assuming you would pay full price for the 14 update…but if you weren’t desperate to have 14 on release then you could wait for a half price update sale in which case there’s only 50p difference.

Thanks Grim!
Let me just clarify…
I already have the C13 update.
Dorico with 50% off is apparently £246.
If I activated my C13 license now, to get Dorico for 70% off, I would have to pay for the update from C13 to C14 which would probably be around £85 - but, as you suggest, I would wait for a half price sale.
How do things pan out with these corrected figures?

Right… is this correct?
Activate C13 now, get Dorico at 70% discount - which is £147.60 - and pay around £85 for an update to C14 in future = £232.60… but I’d probably wait for a half price sale on that upgrade so, Total = £190.10 (ish… because I know things will probably cost more in a year or so).
OR
Leave C13 unactivated, get Dorico for the current 50% off (£246) and then - hopefully - get C14 for free in future. Total = £246.

So unless I’ve got it wrong - which I very probably have - the former makes much more sense! Right?

Thanks

Sorry…prices I quoted were for Absolute/Wavelab not Dorico!!
I gave c13 update price as a guide to what to expect 14 to be.

So yes…with the bigger price and so bigger discount, if you’re happy waiting for an update sale it would make sense to activate now and get the 70% dorico.

Yes! (And I’m also basing the update price on the C12 to C13 update cost: £85. £42.50 with 50% discount - which I just paid)
Even if I got the C13 to C14 update at full price (£85ish) that would still only total £232.60! Still less than the £246 alternative!
Good. I think my course is set!
Thanks fellow!
