Erasmus+: more than you might think

As the back-to-school season approaches, now is the perfect time to recap what Erasmus+ truly offers.

Think Erasmus+ isn't for you? Think again!

It’s easy to assume that Erasmus+ is just for university students, focused only on academic learning, and limited to EU countries. But this is only a fraction of what the programme has to offer.

Stories from Erasmus+ participants reveal a programme that breaks barriers and opens doors for everyone - no matter their age, learning style, or personal circumstances.

For high-school students

Nahia, a high school student from Spain, remembers the day she learned about Erasmus+ at her school. Excited by the prospect of discovering a new culture, she decided to take a chance.

"Taking part in this adventure has definitely meant a before and after."

Her nine-day exchange in Germany was more than just a language course; it was an immersion into a new way of life, full of lasting friendships and a deeper understanding of Europe.

Nahia’s journey shows that Erasmus+ is not just for university students – it’s a gateway for young learners, too.

For teachers

For Arthur, a vocational education and training teacher from Luxembourg, Erasmus+ represents a different kind of learning.

In his role as a coordinator for internships in green careers, Arthur sees first-hand how the programme can transform students.

“Erasmus+ helps us to train our students, future entrepreneurs and employees in green careers, as well as our staff with a focus on open-mindedness.”

His students do not just learn in classrooms; they gain practical skills in agriculture and forestry by working abroad. Through these hands-on experiences, Erasmus+ shows that education is not confined to books and lectures — it is about applying knowledge in the real world.

For everyone

Then there is Yiğit, a para-archer from Türkiye, who demonstrates the life-changing impact of the programme, especially for people with disabilities.

Studying sport at the University of Vigo in Spain, Yiğit found a community that embraced his potential.

“Erasmus+ has life-changing effects, especially for people who have disabilities. The programme creates equality of opportunity through the support it provides and gives people like me the courage to do something alone.”

For Yiğit, the programme was more than an academic opportunity — it was a chance to prove to himself and others that his disability would not limit his dreams.

These stories show that Erasmus+ isn’t just a programme for a select few; it is a platform for growth, discovery, and connection, open to all who are ready to take the first step.
