16th Citizens’ Energy Forum

Citizens' Energy Forum

The 16th Citizens Energy Forum will be co-organised by the European Commission and the Hungarian Energy and Public Utility Regulatory Authority.

It will engage a wide range of local stakeholders, including NGOs, cities, communities, youth and businesses, as well as Energy Regulators and national policy makers on how to effectively empower citizens on the ground to ensure the delivery of a just energy transition. Discussions will be centred around the exchange of good practices in the context of recent policy and legal developments and look at ways to better empower citizens to achieve a just transition.

Following up on the conclusions of the previous edition, on the building blocks of a genuine consumer-centric energy system, this year’s event will explore further how innovative initiatives, fostering a fair and inclusive transition where no one is left behind, can be implemented and replicated on the ground through local support structures and actors.

The focus will be on the role of trusted intermediaries, such as public authorities, consumer organisations, local energy agencies, energy services companies and energy communities to help citizens reap the benefits of the European Green Deal through technical and financial support and innovative energy services. Special emphasis will be placed on experiences and solutions from different EU countries, in particular Central and Eastern European countries, and from coal and carbon intensive regions that are particularly impacted by the energy transition.

The event will be web streamed and active participation will be facilitated through Sli.do polls for both onsite and online participants, stakeholder testimonies, hands-on informative and inspiring examples of citizen empowerment actions, as well as lively discussions in breakout sessions.
