EU countries' decision regarding the application of the exception from the anti-rabies vaccination condition for young dogs, cats and ferrets
EU countries have discretion whether or not they allow the introduction onto their territory of "young dogs, cats and ferrets", i.e. dogs, cats and ferrets which are:
-
less than 12 weeks old and have not received an anti-rabies vaccination, or
-
between 12 and 16 weeks old and have received an anti-rabies vaccination but are not yet fully protected (i.e. do not met the validity requirements for the anti-rabies vaccination).
Young dogs, cats and ferrets may be moved:
-
into an EU country from another for non-commercial purposes in accordance with Article 7 of Regulation (EU) No 576/2013 (see EXCEPTIONS)
-
into an EU country from a territory or third country for non-commercial purposes in accordance with Article 11 of Regulation (EU) No 576/2013 (see EXCEPTIONS)
- within the Union for commercial purposes in accordance with Articles 54 and 56 of Regulation (EU) 2020/688 (see EXCEPTIONS)
Young dogs, cats and ferrets cannot be moved into the Union for commercial purposes from a country or territory outside the EU.
Please note that:
-
"Yes" means "I accept the introduction of young dogs, cats and ferrets into my territory"
-
"No" means "I refuse the introduction of young dogs, cats and ferrets into my territory"
