(ANCHORAGE, Alaska) – As spring ushers in the season of road construction and maintenance work, the Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities (DOT&PF) is proud to announce its participation in Work Zone Awareness Week, taking place from Monday, April 15 through Friday, April 19. This annual event serves as a crucial reminder to all motorists to exercise caution and vigilance when driving through work zones to ensure the safety of both workers and travelers.

Work Zone Awareness Week is a nationwide initiative aimed at raising awareness about the importance of work zone safety and highlighting the risks faced by construction workers and motorists alike. With the theme “Actions Behind the Wheel Can Last Forever,” Alaska DOT&PF is committed to fostering a culture of safety on the roads and reducing the number of crashes in work zones.

"Work Zone Awareness Week is an opportunity for us to emphasize the importance of safe driving practices in and around construction zones," said Commissioner Ryan Anderson. "Our dedicated crews work tirelessly to improve and maintain Alaska's transportation infrastructure, and it is imperative that motorists do their part to keep them safe."

Throughout the week, the Alaska DOT&PF will be conducting a public awareness campaign through social media, radio, and other channels to promote work zone safety.

Motorists are reminded to remain attentive, obey posted speed limits, and avoid distractions such as texting or using mobile devices while driving through work zones. Additionally, drivers should be prepared for sudden changes in traffic patterns and lane closures, and exercise patience and caution to prevent crashes.

The Alaska DOT&PF urges all motorists to join in their commitment to work zone safety and make responsible driving decisions to protect the lives of construction and maintenance workers and fellow travelers on the road.
