Why is my iPad asking for Face ID every time I open Safari?

I’m using 16.5 in my iPad. Even after I close all tabs and wipe history. Every time I open Safari it scans my face. Why is it authenticating? Is it filling forms in the background, sharing my info with something? I don’t have any extensions running.

That makes little sense, unfortunately. Safari has never had this behaviour before. It only verified the face ID when I logged in on a site. Now, it does it whenever I return to Safari from another app or even just from the home screen. Whether or not a login procedure applies in Safari makes no difference.

Hey @Kirkulees, it sounds like your iPad might be using Face ID for auto-filling passwords. Whenever you open Safari, it checks if there's any saved password data to be filled, hence triggering Face ID for authentication. It's generally not a cause for concern, as it's just trying to protect your information.

If you find it bothersome though, you can go to Settings > Face ID & Passcode > Other Apps, and then disable Face ID for Safari. However, this means you'll have to manually type your passwords when needed.

Hope this clarifies things a bit!
