i want to do a clean install on a new Mac Book. Leave behind old material on iMac. If I set up it with my account details will my e-mails be transferred? I want them to be....but do not plan to use Migration assistant as want most of my old material dumped!

Your iCloud email will be transferred if you log in with your Apple ID.
For 3rd party email accounts, you would need to manually add them to the Mail app to have them accessible.
