How do I customise file folder settings on Sonoma 14.5 iMac update?

With the Sonoma 14.5 Mac update, every time I have a file folder open on my desktop, then open up another file folder, the first one closes (minimizes) off to the side of the screen. It's annoying and I want it to stop, please. Same happens when I have a file folder open, click on the desktop to create another file folder. The first one closes (minimizes) on to a bar on the side. I can see it and reopen it, but dang it, it's one more step. I want the file folders to stay open until I close them. Thank you if you can help.

Maybe Stage Manager is the problem.

If Stage Manager is turned on > turn it off.

Or... select Customize...

and set Show Items > On Desktop

then set Click wallpaper to reveal desktop to > Never

Not exactly sure, but this sounds kind of like a Mission Control setting.

As a test, go to Apple > System Settings > Desktop & Dock and turn Off all of the Mission Control switches.

If that doesn't help, then poke around in your Finder > Finder Preferences settings.

It opens like normal. I right click and open the folder (from the desktop) and a window pops up over the top of anything I have open on the desktop. The minimizing happens when I first click on the desktop to make it active, then everything (open folders, browser) minimizes into the sidebar. Thanks

It works normally to open an existing folder on my desktop when right clicking. The window opens on top of any other folders that are open and the browser window. When everything minimizes is when I click on the desktop to select the desktop itself. That's when I get a gray opaque frame around my screen and the folders and browsers minimize into the sidebar area. If I select the desktop to create a new folder, then everything I have open minimizes.

Thank you for trying! None of that fixed the issue. The browser window also minimizes into the sidebar when clicking on the desktop. This all just started happening with me updating to Sonoma 14.5.

Hmm... What happens when you Control (right) click on a Folder and select Open in New Window.
