You could install the trial version of Metapho on your iPhone. When you open a photo from your iPhoto Library in Metapho it can show you, if the photo has LIDAR data attached.

  • Open the photo view it enlarged
  • Tap the Share button and select Metapho in the list of photo editing extensions.
  • In the section "Image Information" you will see a button "Assets". When you tap it, you will see, if here is a depth map available.

The most recent Pro models (since 2020) are equipped with a LIDAR scanner (light detection and ranging) and are using it by default when taking photos to measure the distance to the objects and acquire a depth map for Portrait photos or a faster autofocus:

  • iPad Pro 12.9-inch (4th generation) and later.
  • iPad Pro 11-inch (2nd generation) and later.
  • iPhone 12 Pro and later.
  • iPhone 12 Pro Max and later.
  • iPhone 13 Pro.
  • iPhone 13 Pro Max.
  • iPhone 14 Pro.
  • iPhone 14 Pro Max.
  • iPhone 15 Pro.
  • iPhone 15 Pro Max.

We do not have to turn on the LIDAR, it is used by default for the back camera.

The front facing "true depth camera" is not using a LIDAR but an infrared scanner, if I remember correctly.

Have you used the back camera or the front "selfie" camera?

Have you checked, if the lenses at the back of your camera are clean and not covered by the case?

Have all photos you are trying to export been taken with the iPhone 14 pro?

Have the photos been edited with external editors?

Your iPhone is using the LIDAR by default for a better focussing, for HDR fusion, to create a depth map in Portrait mode, so the LIDAR information should be there, as long as the original images are stored on your device.

However, if you are using iCloud Photos and "Optimize iPhone Storage" is on, the "Optimisation" may have removed the high resolution originals with the LIDAR depth data, and then you can only export the optimised versions, if you are not connected to the internet.
