Command + tap-to-click not working properly on 2021 M1 Macbook Pro

I have tap = click enabled for my trackpad, but whenever I use the cmd key in combination with it behavior becomes flaky.

To me, it seems to be a software issue. When I cmd+tap anywhere on the trackpad for the first time, it doesn't register, but if I keep holding down cmd and tap more times, every subsequent tap registers as a click.

I'm using MacOS 14.5

There are plenty consumer complains about this (hardware?) issue.

Apple, please respond.
