There are several issues when using Final Cut Pro version 10.8 on my Mac Studio M2 Max

Anyone else experiencing multiple bugs with 10.8? I've too numerous (and I'm too busy) to document them all in detail. But, often, the timeline won't scroll after making anedit and/or won't "show" me the recent edit. My solution is to restart the app, then all is well. I've done that several times. Toggling background render off doesn't seem to give me any relief. However, I HAVE noticed that rendering is EXCEEDINGLY slow, which is surprising given that I'm using a fast processor and I've plenty of RAM, and I'm using NVMe for read/write storage, which, of course, gives me lots of speed.

(NOTE: I've already wrestled the "trackpad" demon bug. I'm experiencing other issues.)

I'm an experience FCP user. Mac Studio M2 Max. No such problems with same setup until the recent upgrade.

I'm asking, in short, have y'all noticed 10.8 to be "buggy?" I'm hoping a 10.8.x will come shortly.

Lately, I have not been getting an error report. I get an endless beach ball. I either quit or force-quit and I'm good to go... until the next hiccup, which doesn't seem to follow a rhyme or reason. After an edit of some sort (even dragging an effect over--any effect) it will suddenly freeze. Again, it freezes in an odd way. I can play the timelines, but the video does not advance. The audio keeps going. This hitch will sometimes happen every few minutes, or only once per hour.

I'm in the middle of a high-end client project with a deadline, so I must move forward.

My dilemma is this: Simply toggling plugins on/off to see if one of them is offending is not feasible. That could take days or weeks.

I tried logging in as a different user, but so many plugins were not available to me that I couldn't edit sufficiently. I'm in a pickle, especially since it is no longer offering me an error report, except this little diddy every now and then: (attached)

ONLY ONE THING IS CERTAIN: My machine was humming along fine until I updated to 10.8,.

FYI, M1 Max MBP and only the bugs that are well known. Rendering is really fast.

Verify you have 15% of your system drive's total capacity left as free space.

Delete all render files.

Then what these other fine gentleman have said. Delete prefs, delete Chrome (as per chromeisbad.com I think), etc.

Nope. Del. Prefs & Chrome same issues. The issue... I will do a random edit (ANY kind of edit,) and my FCP app will "freeze," but it an odd way. I can play the timeline, and I hear the audio, but the video will not advance... the image is "stuck." My only solution is to FORCE quit the app.

I s'pose the next step is toggling through ALL of my DOZENS of apps to see if one is causing the issue. And this will be a feat, as the issue is intermittent. I will toggle a single app off... and then in a few minutes the issues may crop up. So... Toggle the next... THAT COULD TAKE WEEKS! And I've a client to service (who wonders why I'm not using "the other" NLE to begin with.)

Again, no issues with same set-up before migrating to 10.8. THAT much I know.

Frustrated in LA.

No doubt you and others have issues but that's almost guaranteed. I've not heard widespread complaints which leads me to believe it's not a FCP issue per se. I'm on FCP daily with my M1 MacStudio Max 64GB with no issues. If it were an M2 issue we'd certainly have heard about it. Check your drive speed with BlackMagic, ensure there's plenty of room... I had a terrible slow down that I could not figure out that almost ground my project to a halt. I had used Machine Learning to do a slowmo and it generated 400+GB of files, filling my very fast 1TB NVME.

From one of your recent statements about plugins it sounds as though they could be the problem.

Can you remove them all from the equation to see whether one or more is to blame.

If that is the case you have solved the cause of the problem but are then left to find the perpetrator(s).

I believe most third party plugins are stored in Movies/Motion Templates.
