What to do if my newly bought AirPod Pro have pre-assigned names?

So I bought a set of Airpod Pros that I was told were never used. Got the box, instructions in many languages, case and everything else a new set would come with. But once home and trying to pair them it appears each earbud already has a different name attached to it. Trying to reset them per online instructions doesn't do anything. Am I out of luck and money? I don't get any messages saying their stolen or assigned to another person.

If you bought this from an online shop that sells refurbished technology, it’s probably the reason. If the AirPods say “the owner of this device can see its location” then it means that they are used. However, you say that it doesn’t say anything like that, but rather the individual earbuds have their own attached name. What do you mean by “their own attached name”? I know that you can name the set, but not the individual ones.

When I open the case to pair them, I get no picture on my phone showing the new Airpods. But as Bluetooth searched for new devices it finds 'Airpod Pro #2' and 'Nells Airpods'. I add them to my phone but can't do anything else. I tried to rename them but they always go back to the old name. And they won't play music. Hope this makes sense. I'm not tech savvy.

Appreciate the reply. Unfortunately I’ve already tried the resetting process several times and still the same issue. And I cannot return them as the seller has blocked me. I’m an old guy on a fixed income who unfortunately was trying to save a buck when my original left Apple Pro earbud became static. The Apple Store just kinda said ‘oh well. Better buy a new set’. Just can’t afford that.
