News Release: DFPC and CONG to Conduct Fire Aviation Training for the 2024 Wildfire Season. The Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control (DFPC) and the Colorado National Guard (CONG) will conduct helicopter-based fire suppression and classroom training on April 10-26, 2024. 

DNR/CSFS/DFPC Release SB21-258 Organizational Assessment Final Report. In 2021, the Colorado Legislature directed DNR, CSFS and DFPC through legislation, SB21-258, “to conduct an assessment of wildfire mitigation efforts undertaken or supported by the state to determine the most efficient and effective organizational structure for those efforts.” Link to Fact Sheet | Link to Final Report

News Release: Wildland Fire Incident Management Exercise Planned Near Royal Gorge. The Colorado Division of Fire Prevention & Control (DFPC) will be hosting an incident management/response exercise near the Royal Gorge from Monday, May 8, 2023 to May 10, 2023. 

Media Advisory: State Fire Agency Presents Colorado’s 2023 Wildfire Outlook to Governor Polis. Governor Jared Polis and the Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control (DFPC) will provide an overview of the 2023 wildfire outlook and preparedness plan for the State of Colorado. 

News Release: State Fire Agency & Army National Guard Prepare for 2023 Wildfire Season. The Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control (DFPC) will conduct helicopter-based fire suppression and classroom training with the Colorado Army National Guard throughout the month of April.

News Release: State Fire Agency To Hold Events at Two Colorado Universities in Honor of Community Risk Reduction Week 2023. On Thursday, March 16, 2023 at 9:00am DFPC is hosting a multi-agency event that focuses on the issues fire departments, other public safety officials, and community leaders often face in mitigating safety risks, along with solutions, tools, and strategies to address them. 

News Release: State Fire Agency Announces Community Risk Reduction Week 2023. The Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control (DFPC) is taking part in Community Risk Reduction (CRR) Week. CRR Week is a grass-roots effort by an informal group of fire safety professionals from across the nation. The goal of CRR is to reduce the occurrence and impact of emergency events for both community members and emergency responders. 

News Release: State Fire Agency Names New Chief Administrative Officer. The Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control (DFPC) is pleased to announce Jennah Kitchell as the new DFPC Chief Administrative Officer. Kitchell comes to DFPC from the Colorado Department of Public Safety (CDPS) Executive Director's Office.

From a space heater and candles to your oven and even your Christmas tree, those are all things that could start a fire if you’re not careful. 

News Release:  Marshall Fire Facilitated Learning Analysis. A Facilitated Learning Analysis (FLA) was requested by Mountain View Fire Department, Louisville Fire Department, Boulder County and led by the Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control (DFPC) to review the Marshall Fire which occurred on December 30, 2021, in Boulder County. 

Public Notice: Lake Pueblo State Park Helitack Training. The Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control’s Cañon Helitack, in cooperation with Colorado Parks and Wildlife, will be conducting helicopter hoist training at the Lake Pueblo State Park intermittently throughout August.

News Release: State Fire Agency Sends Aircraft to Help Fight Texas Wildfires. The Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control (DFPC)has sent one of its two Multi Mission Aircraft (MMA) to assist with multiple active wildfires burning throughout the State of Texas. 

Public Notice...CO Department of Natural Resources & DFPC will be Conducting Burning Operations in the Manhattan Creek Unit near Red Feather Lakes Colorado this Spring, Fall, and Winter. Burning operations will occur as weather conditions permit, and could begin this month with slash piles. 

2022 Fire Service Needs Assessment Survey. Colorado law requires the Division of Fire Prevention and Control (DFPC) to conduct a fire service needs assessment at least every other year.  The purpose of this Fire Service Needs Assessment Survey is to collect, compile and prepare a report on the needs of Colorado’s fire service.  It is extremely important for your fire department to participate in this survey.  One of the primary purposes of this needs assessment is to support future funding requests for the Firefighters Safety and Disease Prevention Grant (FFSDPG) as well as to document fire department training needs. 

Public Notice: Prescribed Burning Planned for Mount Evans State Wildlife Area. The Colorado Department of Natural Resources, in cooperation with the Division of Fire Prevention and Control will be conducting prescribed burning operations in  Mount Evans State Wildlife Area this Winter, Spring and Fall. Burning operations will occur as weather conditions permit, and could begin this month with slash piles. 

News Release: Facilitated Learning Analysis (FLA) Team to Review the Marshall Fire. The Colorado Department of Natural Resources (DNR), in cooperation with the Division of Fire Prevention and Control (DFPC) will be conducting prescribed burning operations at  Trinidad Lake State Park this Winter. Burning operations will occur as weather conditions permit, and will consist of a few slash piles.
