A Simpsons Season 7 marathon was interrupted to pull an episode in light of the recent attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump.

The U.K.’s Channel 4 was set to air the Season 7 episode “Lisa the Iconoclast,” in which Lisa Simpson tries to tell the other Springfield residents that their town was named after a murderous pirate who tried to assassinate George Washington. The episode also includes a scene in which a law enforcement officer takes aim at Lisa from a nearby rooftop while she’s speaking at a podium, bearing an eerie resemblance to the assassination attempt on Trump that occurred Saturday (July 13).

The Independent reports that the channel was scheduled to air the episode on Sunday (July 14) afternoon, just one day after 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks attempted to shoot Trump at a Pennsylvania rally. The former president survived the incident, though a bullet reportedly struck his ear. The shooting left two people injured and two people dead, including the suspect.

The Simpsons episode, which was set to air as part of a Season 7 marathon, was instead replaced by the Season 30 episode “Baby You Can’t Drive,” which shows Marge and Homer Simpson working at a company that makes self-driving cars.

“Lisa the Iconoclast” makes no mention of Trump, but the show has been known to reference the former U.S. president. It even supposedly predicted his presidency.

After the attempt on Trump’s life, users on social media have also begun circulating a “doctored” Simpsons still that shows Trump in a casket, implying that the show had also predicted his death.

But Matt Selman, an executive producer and showrunner on the show, confirmed that scene did not occur in any episode of The Simpsons.

ā€œThe image of Donald Trump in a coffin never appeared on The Simpsons. It is doctored,” Selman said in a statement to Reuters.

Trump reflected on the assassination in an interview with the New York Post on his way to Milwaukee for the Republican National Convention, where he is set to speak on Thursday (July 18).

ā€œIā€™m not supposed to be here, Iā€™m supposed to be dead,ā€ Trump said. ā€œIā€™m supposed to be dead.ā€

He added that he also received a call from President Biden after the incident. He said their phone conversation was “fine,” while noting that the President was “very nice.”
