Sustainability is a complex issue and the world has been struggling with it. There are 2 crucial factors that work here. First to map and clear indicators of operations covering all segments for a particular organization whether industry, financial, IT, etc to curve out the sustainable functionales, the report and the reporting or data or MIS structure. Secondly is to develop the conscious sustainability objective of the organization, bring in internal and external stakeholders to understand, clarify, and get to reporting systems with key entry points, assessments and audit. Internal stakeholders are all relevant departments/ functions. External will include partners, vendors, etc. There should be a dedicated team. All in line, it's smooth

Think of sustainability data like the dashboard in a car. Imagine driving without any gauges—no speedometer, fuel gauge, or engine warning lights. You might move forward, but you'd be driving blind, risking breakdowns or worse. Sustainability data is your business's dashboard, showing you where you’re efficient, where you're wasting resources, and how close you are to a crash. Without it, your team is navigating in the dark. But with it, they can steer the company toward a safer, more sustainable future, avoiding pitfalls and maximizing performance.
-
Communicating the importance of sustainability data to your team can be challenging, but it can be achieved through a combination of some initiatives like capacity building, integrating sustainability KPI's with department performance and alignment with organizational goals. Long-term value generation requires initiatives that empower individuals to internalize the importance of sustainability data, not merely force them to comply.
