Firstly, I commend the decision to commute the sentences of 11 individuals serving disproportionately long terms for non-violent drug offenses. It is crucial to rectify the injustices of the past and ensure that our criminal justice system evolves to reflect fairness and equity.
President Biden's proclamation to pardon additional offenses of simple marijuana possession and use is a powerful step towards righting the wrongs of the past. Criminalizing marijuana has needlessly disrupted lives, hindering opportunities for employment, housing, and education. It is high time we dismantle these barriers and move towards a more just and compassionate approach.
The call to Governors to follow suit and address state-level offenses related to marijuana echoes a commitment to ending the unnecessary incarceration of individuals for non-violent actions. Let us continue advocating for reform at all levels of government and celebrate those Governors who have already taken decisive action.

This Administration's commitment to reviewing clemency petitions, delivering reforms, and advancing equal justice is commendable.
