Erase and Restore

I used the erase and restore feature in Utilities. When I tried to restore the OS, it id not completely restore. I tried several times. No success. I then restarted the computer using the Recovery Mode. The Repair utility comes up and I pressed Reinstall OS X. I then connected to the internet as instructed. i went through the screens and then was asked to select disk to install to OS X. There are no disks listed on screen. Any suggestions?

Is this specific computer having this issue >>> MacBook Air 15″, macOS 14.6

Unless I am mistaken, this is an Apple Silicon M2 or possible a M3 Computer running macOS 14.6 Sonoma

Erase your Mac and reset it to factory settings

In theory, using the Erase all content and setting will only remove the User Account ( Home Folder ) leaving the current installation of Sonoma 14.6 UnTouched

Using the Restore would allow the user to restore the User Account ( Home folder ) from a recent Time Machine Backup ( if one had been done ? ?

Gulp, let's hope your drive hasn't died & is the cause of your troubles to start with...

1. Start up from macOS Recovery

Option-⌘-R

Upgrade to the latest macOS compatible with your Mac.

Look at top of screen for Utilities menu...

In Disk Utility>View, select Show all Devices, highlight the top left entry.

Run Disk First Aid on all items in the left panel, from top down.

APFS won't work for Sierra or earlier, Sierra or earlier needs MacOS Extended Journaled. High Sierra won't work for APFS on earlier Macs.
