Siri is confused when I ask it to send a message with the words "add apples to shopping list" to someone

When I use Siri to send a text message, everything works fine, unless I include the phrase "add something to shopping list" in the message. If I do that, Siri says "messages doesn't support the group shopping list, which group do you want to message"?

I then have to abandon the message and re-send being careful not to mention a shopping list. For instance the message will go through if I say "add apples to the list".

Could this be some confusion with Reminders or Notes? Same thing is happening with my spouse's phone.
