SLAT Exam Pattern 2023
As per the official updates, the SLAT Paper Pattern was also modified in 2020 for the new mode of examination. The updated SLAT Exam Pattern says that the number of questions has been reduced to 60 by SIU along with the SLAT time duration. Additionally, a new section, that is WAT (Written Ability Test), has been introduced with subjective questions in this exam. So the candidates preparing for the upcoming exam must note the SLAT Exam Pattern 2023 to fully understand the exam sections, topics covered, and many more. Last year, the SLAT was conducted in CBT mode, but in 2021, the exam was conducted in online home proctored mode. So, the candidates can expect the CBT exam mode for the upcoming exam. SLAT Exam Pattern 2023: Sectional Weightage
As per the official update of the SLAT Paper Pattern, there is a change in the marks distribution and duration. Previously, there were in total of 75 questions with 75 marks along with a SLAT time duration of 75 minutes. In the changed format of SLAT Exam Pattern, the number of questions, marks, and time duration has been reduced.

Stages for SLAT Paper Pattern 2023
As per the official updates, the SLAT selection process is 3-tiered. The admission procedure by SIU is followed by the below 3 rounds.
- SLAT Entrance Exam: It is an objective type entrance exam that consists of 5 sections: Legal Reasoning, Logical Reasoning, GK, Analytical Reasoning, and English Comprehension
- WAT (Written Ability Test): The SLAT is followed by one descriptive question. If the candidates clear the SLAT Cut Off, only then this test is evaluated
- PI (Personal Interview): The candidates who qualify for SLAT and WAT Cut Off will get a call for this round. It is the final selection round as per the SLAT Exam Pattern.
SLAT Paper Pattern for Writing Ability Test
As per the official SLAT Exam Pattern 2023, a Writing Skill Test will be administered for the candidates who will clear the cutoff. The SLAT WAT Test will take 30 minutes to complete, and the candidates will be required to write a short essay on a given subject in this section.
- The SLAT WAT round will be worth a total of 20 points.
- As per the official update of the SLAT Exam Pattern 2023, it will be assessed independently by each of SIU’s law schools. The WAT scores will not be released until the SLAT results are released.
- In the selection process, WAT and Personal Interaction (PI) are given equal weight.

Year-Wise Changes in SLAT Exam Pattern [2021 – 2019]
From this year onwards, the exam will be held at home in the home Proctored Mode. Note the changes in the SLAT Paper Pattern as compared to previous years.

Previously, it was a paper for 150 questions, 150 marks with a total duration of 150 minutes. In the changed format, the number of questions, marks, and time duration have been reduced to 60 questions, 60 marks, and 60 minutes respectively. SLAT Exam Pattern: Marking Scheme
The marking scheme as per the SLAT 2023 Exam Pattern for the upcoming exam is given below. The candidates can utilize this marking scheme to predict their results.
- +1 For each correct answer
- There is no SLAT Negative Marking
- No marks will be granted or removed for unattempted questions
- Correct options out of a total of 60 marks will be used to determine overall scores.

SLAT 2023 Pattern for Take From Home Exam
Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, SLAT Exam authorities have decided to conduct the exam in Online Home Proctored Mode in 2021. So, the candidate can expect the same SLAT Exam Pattern to appear in the exam. The following requirements are needed if the authority declares Online Home Proctored Mode for this year. - Candidates must have a desktop/laptop (with a webcam).
- A stable internet connection (5 Mbps uninterrupted internet speed is desirable).
- Note that the exam will be invigilated using Artificial Intelligence as well as Human Proctoring.
Important Points for SLAT Exam Pattern
All questions are objective types and multiple-choice questions (MCQ). You have to select only the correct answer out of the four or five options appearing on the screen.
- Some questions can be asked from comprehensive passages. You have to read every line carefully to give correct answers.
- You have to give equal weightage to every section of the syllabus while preparing.
