The materials which allow current to flow through them freely are called conductors. The materials which resist the flow of current are called inductors.
Conductors allow the electric current to flow because of the specific structure of the atoms of these materials. The outermost electron of the conductor is loosely bound and can freely move through the material when an electric charge is applied. The best material used as the conductor of electricity is metal. The most conductive material is silver. Since silver is rare and expensive to be used in electrical circuits, copper is used in electrical wiring throughout the world. Superconductors are materials that have zero resistance. They are perfect conductors. All superconductors discovered by scientists become superconductors at a very low temperature (-2340C). Some examples of insulators are glass, plastic, paper, etc
There are some materials which have properties between conductors and insulators. These materials are called semiconductors. The most commonly used semiconductors are silicon and germanium.
