The Indian National Mathematical Olympiad (INMO) is a maths event in India. It is a well-known yearly math competition for high school students held in India. The Indian National Mathematical Olympiad (INMO) is a qualification level for the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO). In the HBCSE (Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education) IMO, the INMO is the third stage. The Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education conducts the INMO exam every year.

The INMO is a highly competitive exam that allows students to get a solid understanding of the topics covered in the syllabus. Applicants who obtained an INMO merit award for a previous INMO test are invited to write the exam, and each year, about 900 students qualify for the INMO exam. The INMO Eligibility Criteria for the INMO 2022–23 Exam are outlined below.
INMO 2021-22: Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must first pass their state’s or zone’s Regional Mathematical Olympiad (RMO) to attempt the INMO 2021-22 test. Candidates must meet a few prerequisites to be considered for the INMO 2021-22 exam. Students in Classes VIII, IX, X, XI, or XII who were born on or after August 1, 2002, are eligible to take the IOQM.
- Applicants for the INMO exam are identified based on their performance in the preliminary stage test, the Regional Mathematical Olympiad (RMO).
- A total of 28 students from grades 8, 9, 10, and 11 and 6 students from grade 12 are selected to compete in the HBCSE INMO in every area.
- If two applicants’ scores are tied, the Pre-Regional Math Olympiad (Pre-RMO) score will be used to break the tie. All candidates will be considered in the final list provided to the HBCSE if the Pre-RMO grade fails to break the score.
- In addition, five more girls are chosen (only female students in grades 8, 9, 10, and 11), with the candidates for each area being excluded.
- A minimum of five students from non-Kendriya Vidyalaya (KV) CBSE schools and a maximum of five students from Kendriya Vidyalaya schools outside India may be chosen to attempt the INMO 2021-22 test directly. Student selection is mainly the duty of the CBSE and KVS authorities.
- Only 30 people qualify for the INMO 2021-22 out of 500 applications. The best 30 candidates are then assigned to the HBCSE for a month of coaching in preparation for the International Maths Olympiad.
- After the training camp, only the best 6 applicants are chosen to represent our country at the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO).
