Tech Exchange

Tech Exchange is a semester-long virtual academic program for students attending select Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs) in North America. Tech Exchange teaches applied computer science and problem solving skills, while building social capital and community among Black+, Latinx+ and Native+ students at our partner institutions (listed below). Students who identify with a group that is historically underrepresented in the tech industry, with a particular focus on Black+, Latinx+ and Native+ folks, are encouraged to apply.

• One all-expenses paid in-person orientation at Google Headquarters in Mountain View, CA.
• A semester of virtual courses taught by Googlers and HBCU/HSI faculty
• One-on-one academic support with Google engineers
• Mock interview prep and career planning support
• Connections with students from other HBCUs/HSIs to build a network of peers

This program is intended for students who:

• Major in computer science, computer engineering or computing related field with an expected graduation date between December 2026 and May 2027
• Are currently enrolled in a Bachelor's degree program at one of our partner institutions (below)
• Identify as Black+, Latinx+, Native+
• Have beginner level experience programming in Python, Java, Javascript, C or C++
• Will be proficient with the following by December 2024:
  • Using the following data structures when solving coding problems: lists, arrays, hashmaps, sets, stacks, queues, linked lists, and binary trees
  • Describing and implementing the following algorithms: recursion, binary search, and merge sort
  • Describing running time using Big-O notation
• Will have completed a Data Structures course by January 2025
• Have the ability to take max 16 credit hours total (including TechX credit and at home institution) in the Spring 2025 semester
• Interest in pursuing a career in the tech industry or a technical field

• Review your eligibility (above) and register for the 2025 Tech Exchange program overview.
  • This registration will also serve as a program interest form. In this form, you will be able to share the basic application and eligibility information. You will receive an email with additional instructions on completing your application.
• Once the team confirms your eligibility, you will receive a confirmation email with an unique applicant code to complete the application form.
• Can’t make it to an info session? No worries.
  • Attendance is not required to be considered for the 2025 program, but highly recommended. You should still submit the registration form to interest in the 2025 Tech Exchange program.
• Submit your application materials, including an unofficial transcript, by 11:59pm ET on September 2, 2024.
  • Please note: your unofficial transcript must be submitted as a PDF, and show all courses completed in your Bachelors degree program and current enrolled courses in Fall 2024.
• The team will follow up with next steps if you’re accepted no later than October 18, 2024.
