The Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio, is where the best in the game’s history go to live forever. The league announced on Wednesday that the latest batch of members to join the others was already eligible for the modern wing of the voting process.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers currently have 11 players enshrined in Canton. They have the chance to add five more.

If we are being honest, all the eligible players are not likely to be voted in. To be fair, though, they all had good enough careers to be mentioned, but they do not have the accolades to get in most likely. Here are the five Bucs players who were mentioned in today’s release.

Jason Kelce cites 'guys like Vita Vea' as reason for retirement https://bucswire.usatoday.com/2024/09/17/jason-kelce-cites-guys-like-vita-vea-as-reason-for-retirement/ Tue, 17 Sep 2024 19:22:27 +0000 https://bucswire.usatoday.com/?p=88908 When run stuffing, it doesn’t get much better than Tampa Bay Buccaneers NT Vita Vea. Since being drafted in the 2018 NFL Draft, Vea has logged 115 run stops, per PFF- and more often than not, the recipient of a double team from opposing offensive lines.

On a recent episode of the Ryen Russillo Podcast, former long-time Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce spoke about his likely ability to still execute the Eagles infamous “tush push” play and his retirement, stating that his “knees no longer want to block guys like [Vita] Vea.” If anyone knows a thing or two about blocking defenders, it’s one of the greatest centers in league history.

To be singled out by Kelce, who has lined up against the best-of-the-best in his 13-year career as someone he does not want to block, has to be a rewarding feeling, especially as Vea attempts to bounce back from the sprained MCL he suffered during Sunday’s win over the Detroit Lions.

The stalwart of the Buccaneers’ defensive line is not only one of the vocal leaders but arguably the team’s most electrifying personality on the field, which provides a distinguishable difference when he is on the field. Vea’s return will be welcomed as the Buccaneers host the 31st-ranked rushing offense of the Denver Broncos on Sunday in the first of a two-game homestand.

Bucs WR Chris Godwin is a safe bet when targeted for a pass in 2024 https://bucswire.usatoday.com/2024/09/17/bucs-wr-chris-godwin-is-a-safe-bet-when-targeted-for-a-pass-in-2024/ Tue, 17 Sep 2024 17:50:31 +0000 https://bucswire.usatoday.com/?p=88914 Through the first two weeks of the 2024 NFL season, Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Chris Godwin can be summed up with just one word; perfect.

The eight-year veteran has been nothing short of sure-handed for the Buccaneers offense so far, hauling in all 15 of his on-target throws, per PFF. Godwin’s 15 receptions and 200 receiving yards are both currently tied for second-most in the NFL in their respective categories. While his two touchdowns are tied for the leagues most with 10 other players, including Mike Evans.

Not only does Godwin hold the top WR PFF grade of 91.7, but Bucs QB Baker Mayfield currently has a perfect passer rating of 158.3 when targeting Godwin.

Former Buccaneers CB Carlton Davis III was said to have given the Lions defense “the best WR scouting report,” per Lions Defensive Coordinator Aaron Glen prior to Sunday’s NFC Divisional Round rematch. However, it didn’t take Godwin long to exploit his matchups to turn in another stellar performance, as the Buccaneers got out to a 2-0 start on the young 2024 season.

As the Liam Coen offense has provided the team and fans new wrinkles into the playbook, the veteran WR has seen a snap alignment of 58.2% in the slot, compared to 37.4% last season.

Godwin is on pace for 128 receptions, 1700 yards and 17 touchdowns, in the final season of his 3-year $60M contract.

Former Bucs OC, current Panthers HC Dave Canales benches Bryce Young https://bucswire.usatoday.com/2024/09/17/former-bucs-oc-current-panthers-hc-dave-canalas-benches-bryce-young/ Tue, 17 Sep 2024 17:15:52 +0000 https://bucswire.usatoday.com/?p=88915 The Tampa Bay Buccaneers saw Dave Canales rejuvenate Baker Mayfield and their entire offense. The NFL saw this and made him a hot head coaching target, with the Carolina Panthers ultimately pulling him away to help them beat their division rival.

They expected him to be able to get the most out of former top pick Bryce Young, but it seems that won’t be possible.

The team announced on Monday that after a 0-2 start and less-than-ideal performances from Bryce Young, they will bench him. Veteran quarterback Andy Dalton will start in his place.

Canales and the Panthers rebuilt their offensive line this offseason and did their best to give him offensive weapons. Despite all of that, either Canales’s offense hasn’t clicked yet, or maybe it is the lack of exposure to it.

Either way, everyone knows owner David Tepper is not a patient man, so the coaching staff and front office felt they needed to make a move. It should make things interesting for their next matchup on December 1.

Snap counts from Bucs players against the Lions in Week 2 https://bucswire.usatoday.com/lists/snap-counts-from-bucs-players-against-the-lions-in-week-2/ Tue, 17 Sep 2024 14:37:08 +0000 https://bucswire.usatoday.com/?post_type=listicle&p=88909

The 2024 Tampa Bay Buccaneers are off to a great start of 2-0 for the fourth straight season, which is good news for them. They have won the division in three of those seasons, so of course, they are hoping for the fourth time, resulting in the same.

Week 2 was a perfect example of this, as the team had to play 60 minutes to get revenge against the team that kicked them out of the 2024 NFL Playoffs.

The team has been dealing with so many injuries we have seen a lot of the roster from top to bottom. The offense has remained untouched through two weeks but the defense has had to really get creative with schemes and personnel usage. Thankfully, the mind of Todd Bowles has done a good job in making the best out of their situation.

Here are the snap counts from the Bucs in Week 2.

PFF Grades: Best and worst from Bucs Week 2 win over the Lions https://bucswire.usatoday.com/lists/pff-grades-best-and-worst-from-bucs-week-2-win-over-the-lions/ Mon, 16 Sep 2024 17:32:35 +0000 https://bucswire.usatoday.com/?post_type=listicle&p=88903

The NFL season will sometimes show us what we want to see from players; other times, we may see something bad when it isn’t there. For fans and media, there has to be a way to check and balance things to avoid favoritism or bias in a negative light.

Thanks to PFF, we will always have an extra set of eyes to examine the football game.

There were many great performances in the team’s win against the Detroit Lions, the biggest being Chris Godwin and his high PFF grade. Other Bucs also earned high grades, but sadly, not everyone did, despite how one-sided the game was for the team.

Here are the best and worst from the PFF grades for the Bucs’ win over the Detroit Lions.

5 takeaways from the Bucs rugged win over the Lions in Week 2 https://bucswire.usatoday.com/lists/5-takeaways-from-the-bucs-rugged-win-over-the-lions-in-week-2/ Mon, 16 Sep 2024 15:53:50 +0000 https://bucswire.usatoday.com/?post_type=listicle&p=88898

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers entered Detroit on Sunday with a chip on their shoulder. They needed to get a win to shake off the cobwebs from that playoff loss in January, and they did just that. The team had to perform completely, and they pulled on out despite some early headaches.

That is one large takeaway, but there are some minor ones to discuss as well.

The team has been dealing with injuries since before the season officially started. They need some sort of luck to go their way regarding health. If this team gets healthy sooner rather than later, then games against tough opponents won’t be as close as this one was.

Perhaps that is a bonus takeaway? Here are the rest of them.

2025 NFL Mock Draft Monday: Bucs add depth in the trenches https://bucswire.usatoday.com/lists/2025-nfl-mock-draft-monday-bucs-add-depth-in-the-trenches/ Mon, 16 Sep 2024 09:25:00 +0000 https://bucswire.usatoday.com/?post_type=listicle&p=88890

The 2025 NFL Draft is months away, and after a 2-0 start to the season, the fanbase isn’t likely thinking about it, which is okay. Despite that, the Bucs scouting department and front office will always look ahead and plan ahead.

The team’s positional needs heading into the season include edge rushers, guard, wide receiver depth, and the secondary.

For the Bucs’ benefit, those positions are more profound than usual this upcoming draft cycle. The team could easily find starters at various draft spots and rounds to fill those needs. In this mock draft, we aren’t starting things off with any trades. Instead, according to Tankathon, we will use the draft order heading into Monday Night Football. We will also use the PFF mock draft simulator to make the picks and utilize their player pool.

Let the fun begin.

Behind Enemy Lines: Q&A with Lions Wire ahead of Week 2 https://bucswire.usatoday.com/lists/behind-enemy-lines-qa-with-lions-wire-ahead-of-week-2/ Sat, 14 Sep 2024 13:45:37 +0000 https://bucswire.usatoday.com/?post_type=listicle&p=88832

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Detroit Lions will face off on Sunday in a rematch of last year’s NFC Divisional round. The game was down to the wire in the fourth quarter until the Lions broke away from things and the Bucs were forced to play catchup.

Things have changed drastically for both teams, new coaches in different groups and players who have even switched sides. To break down all things Lions we went to the source over at Lionswire, Jeff Risdon.

There are not many people more entrenched in and knowledgeable about the Lions than Risdon. He is the managing editor of Lions Wire, and we sent him a couple of questions to help Bucs fans prepare for Sunday’s matchup.

Week 2 features a matchup between two of the youngest teams in the NFL https://bucswire.usatoday.com/2024/09/13/week-2-features-a-matchup-between-two-of-the-youngest-teams-in-the-nfl/ Fri, 13 Sep 2024 16:53:12 +0000 https://bucswire.usatoday.com/?p=88820 The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have been praised for their ability to adapt to whatever is thrown their way on and off the field. General Manager Jason Licht has been praised for his ability to build and maintain rosters, which he does by bringing in a steady flow of younger talent.

It just so happens another general manager has the same approach, Brad Holmes of the Detroit Lions.

Both men’s approaches to roster building and maintenance have Sunday’s matchup between two of the youngest rosters in the NFL. The Bucs’ average age on opening day was 25.49, while the Lions’ opening roster was 25.38.

Only the Packers and Rams have younger rosters right now in the NFL.

This points to Sunday’s matchup being the second of many as the two teams are poised to compete in the NFC for years to come. Tons of storylines will follow from the playoff rematch, the competition between two number one overall pick quarterbacks, and now which younger roster outduels the other.
