And that’s a wrap! ✅ Another successful workshop, organised together with the National Contact Points on cross-border healthcare from Greece and Cyprus, with the aim of raising awareness of patients’ rights and obligations in cross border healthcare was concluded in Athens yesterday. ⚕ Ensuring that patients’ rights are correctly applied across the EU’s borders is at the heart of our #HealthUnion. These rights facilitate access to safe and high-quality care in another Member State, ensuring patient mobility. A key aspect of such patient mobility is access to information. It is in this context that the Commission is funding 10 workshops across the Member States to improve access to information to patients and doctors. The workshops are also aimed at persons with rare diseases, which provide information on the existence and activities carried out by the ERN-RND, European Reference Network for Rare Neurological Diseases. The workshop concluded in Athens was the fourth one. The next workshop will take place in Valka, Latvia on 26 September. Click here to register: 🔗 https://lnkd.in/dwxNKuUs

🚭 Tobacco is a leading risk factor for cancer. Even if you don’t smoke, you may still be at risk due to secondhand smoke. This is why we have put forward a Recommendation today, to better 🛡 protect people from the effects of second-hand smoke and aerosols. In particular, we want to protect children and young people from harmful emissions. The new initiative will extend smoke free environments to: 🚸Key outdoor areas, such as public playgrounds, amusement parks or swimming pools; 🏢 Outdoor areas connected to healthcare, schools and public buildings; 🚋 Transport stops and stations. The initiative is also targeting newly emerging products, such as heated tobacco products (HTPs) and electronic cigarettes, which are increasingly reaching very young users. No-one should be forced to breath in secondhand smoke. We are taking action today to make sure no-one does. 🤝 EEA and DG Sante strengthen partnership to tackle climate change and protect public health 🌍 We are pleased to announce that, earlier this week, Leena Yla-Mononen, Executive Director of the European Environment Agency (EEA), and Sandra Gallina, Director-General of the Directorate General for Health and Food Safety (DG Sante) (EU Health and Food Safety), have signed an amendment to the Service Level Agreement between the two institutions. This enhanced collaboration expands the scope and reach of the European Climate and Health Observatory, a critical initiative addressing the impacts of climate change on human health. Key updates: ✅ Extending the European Climate and Health Observatory’s activities until the end of 2027 ✅ Strengthening capacity building in EU Member States, ensuring that the knowledge developed is passed on to those who can take action ✅ A new role for the EEA in assessing public health risks under the Serious Cross-border Threats to Health Regulation, working alongside six other EU agencies. These updates reinforce our joint commitment to climate change adaptation, and ensuring that Europe’s public health systems are resilient in the face of climate-related challenges. Together, we are building a safer, healthier, and more resilient Europe for future generations. 🌱💪 Check out our work on the European Climate and Health Observatory: https://lnkd.in/ezphCyPS #ClimateChange #OneHealth #EUforHealth #HealthUnion
