Hi, how can we help you sleep better?
General Information
Baloo Products
Are Baloo products certified by OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100?
Yes! Baloo Living's weighted blankets and linen sheets, pillowcases, and duvet covers are certified by OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100, 23.HUS.50992, Hohenstein.
Setting the standard for textile safety, from yarn to finished product. Every item bearing the OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 label has passed safety tests for the presence of harmful substances.
Our certificate can be verified using the oeko-tex.com label check.
Are Baloo products made with 100% all-natural materials and plastic-free packaging?
Yes. Baloo is the only quilted weighted blanket on the market made with 100% cotton throughout, with no polyester linings or filling, and lab-tested lead-free glass microbeads.
Our linen sheets, pillowcases, and duvet covers are certified by EUROPEAN FLAX® Standard. European Flax® is the guarantee of traceability for premium linen fibre grown in Europe -- a natural and sustainable fiber, cultivated without artificial irrigation and GMO free.
Our products ship in plastic-free packaging (including reusable Baloo tote bags for the weighted blankets!), and we eliminate plastic use throughout our supply chain wherever possible.
Is Baloo cool enough to use year-round?
Heavy doesn't have to mean hot, when you choose a weighted blanket with breathable fabrics and fill. Baloo weighted blankets are made from 100% cotton, so most people find them cool enough to use year-round. The feeling is similar to adding two cotton sheets to your bedding.
Baloo is the only quilted weighted blanket on the market made without polyester or any other synthetic liners that can trap heat. This makes our blankets very breathable, cool, and usable year-round.
"I’ve had insomnia for a decade and the first night I slept with the weighted comforter I got better quality sleep and slept a couple hours more than usual. My partner is a hot sleeper and with the comforter and duvet he is no longer sweating at night. A real lifesaver for us both. I wish I could tell more people how much this really helps with insomnia."
- Charlene, September 29, 2022
We recommend placing your weighted blanket on top of your sheet, but under your regular comforter, if you use one. This helps the weighted blanket to mold to your body, while also giving you the option to add or remove layers for warmth as needed.
If you are a very hot sleeper, we suggest using the blanket without a duvet cover. Although our linen is very lightweight, it does add extra layers.
What duvet cover sizes and colors are available?
Our duvet covers are available in sizes that perfectly fit our throws, blankets, and comforters. Available in the highest quality stonewashed French flax linen, as well as 100% premium cotton.
Our linen duvet covers are available for all weighted blankets and comforter sizes, except for the 9lb Mini and the Daydreamer Lap Blankets. The Blush Pink and Navy Blue linen duvet covers are available in only two sizes: 12lb Throw and 15lb / 20lb Blankets.
Our new 100% cotton duvet covers are currently available in the 12lb Throw size, as well as the 15lb & 20lb Weighted Blanket size.
Please select your size carefully, as our duvet covers for weighted blankets and weighted comforters are sized differently! Our weighted blankets fit the TOP of the bed only, while our weighted comforters are designed to drape over the edges of the bed like a traditional comforter.
Duvet covers for Baloo weighted comforters are also compatible with your non-weighted bedding at home.
If there is a color you'd like to see, we'd love to hear it! Please email us at care@balooliving.com.
Open Box blankets & comforters
We are pleased to offer a limited number weighted blankets as Open Box blankets at a reduced price. These blankets have been returned, inspected and found to be in excellent condition. Any returns that are not in perfect condition are donated to nonprofit organizations.
If you would like to purchase an Open Box item at a discount, please use the link below.
Open Box items are subject to availability, and additional discounts do not apply. Please note, all Open Box orders are Final Sale and may not be returned. All Open Box orders within the contiguous US will ship via UPS; we cannot ship to PO Boxes.
At this time Open Box duvets and pillowcases are not available.
Please know that we do not have the ability to launder the blankets at our facility, so you may wish to wash your open box item upon receiving. Our blankets can be washed on cold, gentle cycle and dried on low or no heat. Due to the variety of washing machines on the market, we recommend checking your model for its specific capacity. The King size blanket and all comforter sizes should be laundered at a commercial facility due to their larger size.
Choosing Size/Weight
Not sure what size to get? Start here, with our interactive sleep quiz.
Baloo weighted bedding sizes range from our 9lb Mini, all the way up to our King Comforter, so there's a perfect size for everyone.
Whether you're looking for a weighted blanket to use on a couch or a bed, alone or with a partner - we'll help you find our best recommendation with our interactive Sleep Quiz.
I'd like more details about Baloo's different options!
If you'd like some deeper reading into all of our different options, this is the place for you.
12lb Throw
Our most popular size: If you’re looking for a Baloo blanket that you can snuggle up with on the couch or take with you to bed, try our best selling 12lb Weighted Throw. It is our most versatile size and perfect for individual use for most anyone. It's easy to carry, easy to clean, and ideal to give as a gift. Because it's smaller than many of the "heavier" blankets, the 12lbs are actually more concentrated on the body. This makes the weight on the body feel in between our 15lb weighted blankets and 20lb weighted blankets.
Great for couples: The 12lb Throw is also perfect for couples who share a bed, but who each want their own weighted blanket -- or if one person wants a weighted blanket but the other person isn't so sure! It's also a perfect size to try for the first time, to see if a weighted blanket is right for both of you.
Weighted Blankets
Fit the TOP of the bed: Our "classic" style is the Full/Queen size Weighted Blanket (60x80 inches), which fits just the top of a Full or Queen bed. Our Full/Queen Blanket is available in both 15lb and 20lb options.
15lb or 20lb: Which to choose? We recommend about 10% of your body weight as a general rule, but it really comes down to personal preference. If you are over age 65, have joint pain - especially in your knees, hips, or back - or if you tend to sleep on your side, then we suggest going with the lighter 15lb option. If you are a healthy adult who usually sleeps on your front or back, and you think you'd enjoy a heavier sensation, then the 20lb blanket may be just right for you.
Not great for sharing: We do not recommend the Full/Queen weighted blanket for couples who wish to share a blanket; it won't be big enough for two people. Try either two 12lb Throws or a Weighted Comforter instead!
King Size: If you have a King size bed and like the classic style that fits the top of the bed, then we suggest our 25lb King Weighted Blanket (80x87 inches). Don't worry about following the 10% of your body weight rule here. The weight is distributed over a larger area, so 25lbs won't feel as heavy as it sounds.
Sharing a king size blanket: The king size blanket is big enough to be shared by two people!
Weighted Comforters
Perfect for couples, or if you just know what you love: If you want a larger weighted blanket to share with a partner, or if you just want the look of a larger, traditional comforter, then that's where Baloo's Weighted Comforter comes in. Our Weighted Comforter measures 90 by 90 inches (Full/Queen) or 92 by 108 inches (King) and drapes over the sides of the bed.
Our unique design: What makes it special is that it's weighted only in the part that rests on top of the bed. So there's no added unnecessary weight pulling towards the edges. Keep in mind that the comforters still weigh a few pounds more than the weighted blankets of each size, just because they're larger and have more fabric.
The 9lb Mini
Great for kids or adults: We first designed the Mini in response to requests for a weighted blanket for kids. However, many adults love the Mini as well! It's a great option for anyone who wants a lighter blanket that is easier to lift and move around; or if you're a smaller person and want a smaller weighted blanket that won't feel overwhelming. The Mini is offered in three vegetable-dyed colors.
If you're still unsure, we recommend trying our interactive sleep quiz to help you find the best size to try.
Does it matter if I sleep on my side, back, or stomach?
Weighted blankets work equally well for both side sleepers and those who sleep on their back or stomach.
For side sleepers who are choosing between two weights that are otherwise the same - for instance our Full/Queen 15lb or 20lb options - we would suggest trying the lighter weight. If you sleep on your back or stomach, then this is generally less of a consideration.
How heavy should a weighted blanket be?
Our sleep quiz should give you a great recommendation! But if you're someone who really wants to do their research, this is for you.
There are so many options available when it comes to both the size and weight of a weighted blanket... How do you pick the right one?
The ideal blanket is meant to be relaxing, lull you to sleep, and calm your nerves; it shouldn’t be so heavy as to be uncomfortable.
When it comes to the density of our weighted bedding options - how heavy they actually feel on the body - you may be surprised. At 8lb, our Daydreamer Lap Blanket is the most dense, whereas our 15lb Full/Queen Blanket or Comforter actually feels the least heavy on the body.
Rather than choosing a weighted blanket that's 10% of your body weight (which is the conventional wisdom you may have heard), we recommend selecting based on the size you want. Do you want a personal size that's easy to use and has a satisfying weight on the body? Then try our bestseller, the 12lb Throw. Do you prefer something that's big enough to share with a partner? Then try our Weighted Comforter, and choose the size that fits your bed. (Yes, a 25lb Weighted Comforter is heavy, but when it's spread across a king size bed it actually feels less dense than you might expect!)
Of course, if you are choosing between two weights in the same size (e.g. 15lb vs. 20lb Full/Queen blankets), you can consider other factors, such as how you sleep and any joint sensitivity. Make sure to consider what position you sleep in: if you’re a back or stomach sleeper you can probably handle a heavier blanket, while a side-sleeper or someone with knee, hip, or back pain might opt for something lighter.
No matter what, whether the blanket will be used for an adult or a child, you should always be sure that the overall weight is something that the person will be able to move easily. They should never be used on babies or toddlers, and children should always be able to lift the blanket on their own, as a safety precaution. "Too heavy" does exist. But once again, it’s a matter of how comfortable it makes you feel. If you’re afraid a weighted blanket will be too heavy, start with a lighter one, and you can always move up from there.
Are weighted blankets good for couples?
Weighted blankets are just as good for couples as they are for individuals, as long as you take both partners' preferences into consideration. If you're thinking of trying a weighted blanket, we suggest speaking with your partner first, to find out whether it's something they'd like to try as well. Either way, we have options for you!
If a weighted blanket is something you'd both like to try, then you could choose to purchase either one large blanket to share, or two smaller ones so that you each have your own.
We recommend the following options for couples:
- Two 12lb Throws. This is perfect for couples who share a bed, but who each want their own weighted blanket -- or if one person wants a weighted blanket but the other person isn't so sure. Many couples also love that the Throw is lighter and easier to maneuver than one larger blanket.
- King Size Blanket. This 80x87in weighted blanket fits just the TOP of a king size bed, but it's usually large enough for two people to share.
- Weighted Comforter. Our comforters come in either Full/Queen or King sizes and were designed to be perfect for sharing. The Full/Queen is available in both 15lb or 20lb options; when in doubt, we recommend trying the lighter option.

About Weighted Blankets
What is a weighted blanket?
A weighted blanket is designed to add a gentle weighted pressure to the body, which can soothe and calm the body and mind. Sizes and weights can range; smaller, lighter blankets for children can weigh as little as five pounds, while larger blankets can weigh 25 pounds or more. The weight typically comes from tiny glass or plastic beads that are sewn into pockets in the blanket. (At Baloo, we use only 100% glass beads - never plastic!)
The added weight has been shown to have therapeutic properties that calm anxiety, ease insomnia, reduce stress, improve sleep, and encourage relaxation. One of the most significant benefits of using a weighted blanket is deeper, more restorative sleep.
Although their popularity appears to have exploded recently, weighted blankets have actually been around for decades in the medical community. Originally used to treat anxiety, it was noted that a heavier blanket often calmed users and helped them sleep more soundly. However these benefits aren't limited to those seeking help with a specific medical need; weighted blankets are now beloved by many for their help with general relaxation and comfort, as well as relief from stress, insomnia, restless leg syndrome, and even PTSD.
Baloo's unique construction and double-quilted stitch pattern helps to create an even distribution of the weight across the entire blanket. Our design prevents “pooling” of the weighted glass beads and allows them to contour to the body, creating a hug-like sensation that is calming without being restrictive. We also use a premium cotton exterior and cotton batting inside the pockets, for a soft, luxurious feeling.
How do weighted blankets work?
For many, weighted blankets are a powerful, affordable tool for self-healing. Weighted blankets work by energizing your body’s natural ability to respond positively and effectively to stress. The gentle pressure of the blanket mimics the sensation of deep touch pressure (DTP; also commonly written as deep pressure touch). DTP is shown to have therapeutic effects on the body, specifically our parasympathetic and sympathetic systems, both of which form part of the nervous system.
The parasympathetic is often called the “rest and digest” system and is responsible for conserving energy and slowing the heart rate. The sympathetic is our “fight or flight” system, triggered in stressful situations. DTP affects each of these systems differently:
- It increases parasympathetic activity, thereby slowing down the heart rate and calming the nervous system.
- It decreases sympathetic activity by decreasing cortisol (stress hormone) levels, pacifying your fight or flight response, and relaxing the body.
Consider the body’s biological response to being nervous: increased heart rate, shortness of breath or hyperventilation, increased sweat production, plus countless other internal and external signals. These are reactions triggered by the built-in alarm in our nervous system. Many of us already have a subconscious toolkit of natural responses to these changes:
deep or mindful breathing techniques, meditation or visualization, mindful relaxation of our muscles, counting sheep, or even talking a short walk or doing a routine task. In much the same way, deep touch pressure can help us regulate our body’s chemistry naturally and promote calmness and balance—inside and out.
Deep touch pressure also encourages the brain to release certain neurotransmitters that have an overall calming effect on the body. DTP encourages the production of serotonin, known as the happy hormone, which regulates our mood and plays an important role in our feeling of wellbeing. Serotonin also leads to melatonin production, which is what controls our sleep/wake cycles, thereby helping to balance our sleeping patterns. All of these chemicals work together to relax the nervous system, reduce anxiety, and stimulate healthy, restful sleep.
In order to create the effect of DTP, a weighted blanket should cover you and contour to your body. The body’s reaction to the comfort and pressure of the blanket isn’t just superficial; the weighted blanket mimics a hug, which floods our bodies with positive response signals. Studies show that this sensation helps reduce blood pressure and slows the heart rate.
The chemical and physical reactions to deep touch pressure provided by weighted blankets work in perfect physical and physiological harmony. Once wrapped in the comforting hug of the weighted blanket, energy and stress levels decrease, mood-boosting hormones increase, and the body relaxes naturally.

Why are weighted blankets more expensive than regular bedding?
Like all bedding, when it comes to the weighted blankets on the market, there is a wide price range. There is good reason for this; it comes down to the materials, the workmanship, and even the priorities and customer service of the companies. Plastic pellets are much cheaper than glass beads; polyester batting is less expensive than 100% cotton. Chemical-free certifications, careful stitching and construction (ensuring that the glass microbeads are evenly and securely distributed), extra-soft premium cotton, and fair labor practices all go into the production cost. The size and weight have a dramatic impact on this as well.
Baloo Living is an American company founded on the principles of respect for our bodies, our communities, and our planet. Inspired by the bodies' innate healing abilities and natural balance, we place a premium on selecting only the highest quality materials. When it comes to something as important as our physical and mental health, and as personal as sleep, we believe our bedding should be made with only the best.
A quick comparison to products on the market will show that most quality weighted blankets will start in the lower $100s and can go up to $250 and more. There are so many factors when researching which weighted blanket is best for you and your needs, but remember to read thoroughly before buying; some blankets aren’t machine-washable, and many brands that are advertised as "100% cotton" are actually filled with polyester batting, which is hotter and less breathable than cotton.
Even though a brand might have a higher price tag at first, it could end up being a better investment in the long run. At Baloo, we guarantee our quality and workmanship, so you can plan on buying a weighted blanket once, to last.
Are weighted blankets good for children?
Both children and adults can find the snug pressure of a weighted blanket to be soothing, and to create a sense of calm and stillness.
Does your child have trouble going to sleep or staying asleep? In addition to being incredibly important for a child's health and development, sleep (or lack thereof) can have a huge impact on the whole family! Whether this is caused by separation anxiety, nightmares, or other problems, a weighted blanket may help.
The weight of the blanket can help your child’s anxiety by triggering their nervous system to lower their heart rate and slow their breathing. It can also prevent tossing and turning, thereby helping your child stay still and go to sleep more quickly. Studies have shown the weight of the blanket may reduce fidgeting and squirming at bedtime, which can be especially helpful to children with ADHD.
Weighted blankets can also help with focus and mental clarity during the day. They have also long been used to help children with autism, who may not be able to focus during the day or sleep at night due to noise disruption.
Weighted blankets should never be used on infants or small children under the age of four. For older children, you should provide adult supervision, especially at first; and always be sure that the child is strong enough to remove the weighted blanket if needed. You should always ensure that your child does not sleep with the weighted blanket over their face. When in doubt, speak with your child's pediatrician, especially if your child suffers from skin allergies, blood circulation issues, epilepsy, or heart or breathing problems.
Is there a minimum age for children to use a weighted blanket?
Children can use weighted blankets; many children love them! But you should always exercise care when selecting one for your child and when first using it.
When you purchase a weighted blanket, the standard rule is that the blanket should weigh about 5-10% of your child's body weight.

For older children, you should provide adult supervision, especially at first; and always be sure that the child is strong enough to remove the weighted blanket if needed. You should also ensure that your child does not sleep with the weighted blanket over their face.

Can I use a weighted blanket if I’m pregnant?
Sleep is crucial for pregnant women, but can be harder to come by. A recent study confirmed that pregnant women experience a decrease in night-time sleep, especially during the last trimester.
The good news is, your weighted blanket can help and, in general, is perfectly safe for pregnancy. We always recommend speaking to your doctor if you have any specific concerns.
The benefits of using a weighted blanket during pregnancy can include:
- Easing anxiety and stress. Hormones, as well as physical and life changes can lead to higher anxiety for pregnant moms. The sensation of a weighted blanked provides a therapeutic way to soothe racing thoughts, slow your breathing, and help you to find rest and calm.
- Reducing inflammation. Swelling is another unpleasant side effect of pregnancy, due to a dramatic increase of fluids in your body. A weighted blanket can actually help reduce swelling and inflammation of the legs, hands, and feet.
- Relief from Restless Legs Syndrome. Studies have found that weighted blankets can also help reduce RLS symptoms.
- Deep Pressure Stimulus (DPS). Weighted blankets promote Deep Pressure Stimulation (DPS) therapy. The gentle pressure of the weighted blanket increases the body's serotonin production – a chemical found in the body that helps with relaxation and melatonin production. Deep pressure stimulation typically also provides tactile sensory feedback in the form of hugging, cuddling, and comforting touch.
The overall benefits of DPS include increased levels of happiness, better, more restful sleep, fewer feelings of stress and anxiety, better mental clarity, and feelings of being soothed.
What medical conditions have weighted blankets been used to support?
Anxiety
For decades, hospitals and clinics have used weighted blankets to help patients suffering from anxiety, including children, as a means to effectively calm their nerves. In our increasingly anxious society, it is not uncommon for everyone to experience some level of anxiety in their daily life. As many as 40 million Americans are affected by more serious and chronic anxiety disorders, many of which require the intervention of a professional or medication. For anyone experiencing any level of anxiety, weighted blankets give the option of a natural way to help ease their symptoms.
Anxiety can strike at any time of day, which is why the flexibility and versatility of weighted blankets is so critical. While medications are necessary and invaluable for many people, weighted blankets do not require a schedule or waiting period. Any time an anxiety attack surfaces, the grounding, calming hug of the weighted blanket is never far away.
Insomnia
One of the most popular uses of weighted blankets outside a clinical setting is reducing and easing insomnia. For those who toss and turn or wake up periodically throughout the night, a weighted blanket provides the same snug comfort that a baby feels when they are swaddled in their crib before drifting off to sleep. The firm but gentle pressure created by a weighted blanket is a signal to the brain to release various neurotransmitters, including melatonin, which is in charge of synchronizing our circadian rhythms.
This means it times and regulates our sleep/wake cycles. Using a weighted blanket can help your body adopt a more regular and reliable sleeping schedule, and should ease the strain of insomnia, encouraging your body to give in to sleep. As you start to sleep more routinely and naturally, your overall health can improve greatly, and you should notice more energy in your day-to-day life.
Weighted blankets have also been shown to encourage the production of serotonin, which significantly impacts feelings of tranquility and creates a sense of peace, helping to stabilize mood and calm us down.
Autism Spectrum Disorders, Sensory Issues, ADD/ADHD
One of the original applications of weighted blankets was calming and soothing children with autism spectrum disorders, and they are still used today. For children experiencing sensory issues, autism spectrum disorders, and ADD/ADHD, a weighted blanket continues to be a popular, natural tool for calming the mind and relaxing the body. World renowned autism researcher Dr. Temple Grandin published a landmark 1999 study about the positive behavioral and physiological effects of deep pressure touch on children with autism. Weighted blankets provide this same deep pressure she talks about.
Stress
Good old-fashioned stress from work and life can have enormous effect on our health over time. While stress is a fact of life, the amount and intensity of stress is something we can control. Adding a weighted blanket to your daily routine can help keep stress at bay and dramatically reduce stress levels when they begin to spike. The deep touch pressure calms many high-energy functions of the body, prompting a relaxed heart rate and deep breathing. Just as we would help destress a child with physical touch, we as adults can experience that same cozy feeling under the embrace of a weighted blanket.
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is most commonly associated with veterans; however, PTSD can stem from any stressful event such as a car wreck or violent assault and effects millions of people. PTSD is comprised of a cluster of issues, many of which are addressed by a weighted blanket. The feelings of security brought on by the weighted hug of the blanket, as well as the release of mood-lifting serotonin, can help soothe and calm sufferers.
Fibromyalgia
As per the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, fibromyalgia is a musculoskeletal disorder that can cause serious pain throughout a person's body. Emotional distress typically comes with the condition. Given the low threshold of pain for a person with fibromyalgia, sleep issues can add to the lack of emotional well-being.
There is no cure for fibromyalgia, but doctors can help their patients manage the symptoms they suffer. That's routinely done with medications and self-management techniques that include exercising and stress management. There's another way of helping to manage fibromyalgia, and that's done naturally with a weighted blanket.
Weighted Blankets have been used by occupational therapists for years. That relaxed feeling results in the body producing serotonin, melatonin and oxytocin. These are what tell your body that it's time for a safe and restful night of sleep.
Depression
Depression is a debilitating mental ailment that exhibits itself in many forms. A variety of therapies are available to treat depression. Weighted blankets are not a cure, but they can be a tool to help, as part of a treatment plan formed in partnership with your doctor.
One crucial way to help combat depression is by introducing small changes in your life. Studies have shown that those sleeping with a weighted blanket at night may sleep better and experience fewer symptoms associated with depression than those sleeping without it. Weighted blankets promote relaxation by providing a deep pressure touch. The physical connection can have positive effects on the hormones controlling the nervous system, affecting both moods and depression levels.
Other recent studies have shown that 78% of people preferred weighted blankets as a useful and straightforward technique to aid with depression. Weighted blankets produce deep pressure stimulation that can help mitigate anxiety, a significant contributor to depression.
Who should not use a weighted blanket?
Although weighted blankets are generally safe, there are important factors to consider.
For adults, a weighted blanket will often help you get a good night’s sleep; but if you are considering using a weighted blanket in combination with treatment for a medical condition, it’s important that you talk with your doctor to ensure you use the correct size and weight, as well as the appropriate duration of use.
If you have diabetes, difficulty breathing (including sleep apnea, asthma, or COPD), blood pressure issues, or poor circulation, we recommend speaking with your physician before using a weighted blanket. If you have claustrophobia or cleithrophobia, a weighted blanket may not be right for you.
Finally, if you have arthritis, especially in your hands, then it could be uncomfortable to lift or move a weighted blanket.
Care & Use Instructions
Weighted Bedding
How do I use a weighted blanket?
There isn’t really one right or wrong way to use a weighted blanket. You can layer it with your regular bedding to sleep under, rest it on your lap while at your desk, or snuggle with it on the couch while you unwind. With a smaller option like the 12lb Throw, Mini, or Daydreamer, you can even stand with it wrapped around your shoulders.
Weighted blankets administer deep pressure touch to the body, which sets off a number of positive responses in the brain, releasing mood-bursting serotonin, while lowering the heart rate. This physical-mental-emotional connection can create a sense of calm, improve anxiety, and help quiet the body's stress responses.
Even if you don't suffer from diagnosed anxiety or severe stress, a weighted blanket can still be a rich addition to your life, just by providing access to deeper relaxation. They are also a wonderful addition to a meditation or yoga routine.
Sleep is one of the most important things we can do for our mental and physical health and well-being, and one of the most profound benefits of a weighted blanket is to those who suffer from insomnia. We are gratified to hear from so many customers who have finally been able to sleep, after years of struggle. But to be in need of a better night’s sleep, you don’t necessarily have to suffer from insomnia.
We all have a profound need for sleep, and sadly most of us don't get enough. A weighted blanket can help you fall asleep more easily, sleep more deeply, and awaken less often.
If you’re a nervous traveler, have trouble sleeping in strange places, or like to bring something familiar with you on the road, a weighted blanket is like taking a little natural travel-therapy with you, for a quick access to some calming hormones and a soothing embrace.
How should I use and adjust to my new Baloo weighted blanket?
Your new weighted blanket may feel surprisingly heavy when it arrives. That's normal! If you'd like to ease into using it, here's what we suggest:
- Start by using your Baloo on your lower body for the first few nights, then raise it up to your chest.
- You can also try using it for small increments of time on the sofa at first.
- Give yourself one or two weeks to adjust to the new sensation.
- Over time, your body will adjust to the feeling of the added weight while you sleep. You'll continue to receive the benefits, even when you stop noticing the weight.
We offer a 30-day window for returns and exchanges, to give you time to really experience the effect of sleeping with a Baloo weighted blanket.
How do I layer a weighted blanket and duvet cover with my other bedding?
Because our blankets are designed to add weight, and not warmth, we generally recommend using your Baloo as an additional layer with your existing bedding.
We suggest layering it above your top sheet if you use one, but underneath any other comforter or blanket that you use for warmth. This can also allow you to easily adjust the temperature by removing your other blankets if needed.
We do offer linen duvet covers to fit our 12lb, 15lb, 20lb, and 25lb weighted blankets and comforters. While not at all necessary, our linen duvet covers are a luxurious addition to your Baloo weighted bedding. They offer the softness of premium linen in soothing color options, along with added protection and easier washing. Crafted from the highest quality stonewashed French flax linen, the covers are available in sizes that perfectly fit our throws, blankets, and comforters.
If you are a very hot sleeper, we suggest using the blanket without a duvet cover. Although our linen is very lightweight, it does add extra layers.
Please select your size carefully, as our weighted blanket duvet covers for weighted blankets and weighted comforters are sized differently.
Each duvet cover includes fabric ties sewn into the seams, where they match up with loops sewn into the weighted bedding. The larger the product, the more ties and loops we include, to ensure a secure connection.
Why are there no glass beads in the edges of the Weighted Comforter? And which side is the "top?"
Because of the unique design of our Weighted Comforter, the weighted area is actually asymmetrical. There is one side that is weighted all the way to the edge, which is designed to lie at the head of the bed, where it will cover your body while you sleep. The other three sides are filled only with cotton batting, and are meant to go along the sides and foot of the bed.
We indicate this weighted edge with small white tags that are sewn into the very top seam.
The small white tags show that this is the side that should be placed at the head of your bed, near your pillows.
Though larger in size overall, the weighted area of our comforters is very similar to that of our weighted blankets. We center the weighted glass beads only in the area that rests on top of the bed, since that's where you will actually feel the sensation on your body. The benefit of this design is that there's less weight pulling off the edge of your bed, and less excess weight overall.
How should I clean my Baloo weighted blanket?
Baloo weighted blankets are safe for the washing machine and dryer. We recommend washing the blanket by itself, using cold water on the gentle cycle and drying on low heat. Please wash one blanket at a time. For additional information about the vegetable-dyed Weighted Blankets, please see below.
Due to the variety of washing machines on the market, please check your model for its specific capacity before washing your blanket, and keep in mind that the blanket will weigh more when wet than dry. We recommend taking the king size blanket and all weighted comforter sizes to a commercial washer.
Our blankets dry surprisingly quickly, so they don't need a long dryer cycle; we suggest checking on them after 20 minutes. Please do not dry clean or iron, as it will damage the blanket. We do not recommend using bleach.
Baloo's Mini Weighted Blanket and Vegetable-Dyed Weighted Throws are dyed with 100% natural plant-based materials, using elements sourced directly from nature. One of the qualities of natural dyes is that they change over time.
- Some color change and fading with use & washing is normal and to be expected, as a natural characteristic of the vegetable dyes used.
- For the first few washes, please wash on its own, using a gentle detergent and cold water, to help preserve the natural color. After the first few washes, launder with similar colors.
- Dry with low heat. Our blankets dry surprising quickly, so check on them after 15-20 minutes so as not to overheat.
- The use of spot stain treatments may alter the dye color. For stains, try soaking the blanket in cool water with some gentle detergent added, before washing.
Please note that Hope Rose, Luna Blue, and any Silver Sage blankets purchased in 2022 or later are not vegetable dyed.

Solu Speakers
How do I use the n.o.w. Tone Therapy speakers?
A simple, minimal meditative experience unlike anything else, the palm-sized n.o.w. Tone Therapy speakers work in dual harmony, to help calm your mind and provide a quiet, grounding moment.
You can use the meditation speakers as often as you like. For the greatest impact, we recommend using them twice a day, three minutes per cycle, for two weeks. Start with just three days in a row, to see how that feels.
The speakers each have a small ON button on the bottom. Press this button, and after a small delay, it will begin to play. You can start them both at the same time, or one after the other.
There are three volume settings. When you first turn them on, they automatically start at the lowest setting. Hit the "Vol+" button once or twice for a higher/highest volume setting. If you tap it again it will go back down to the lowest setting. If it's too loud at the lowest setting, you can wrap it in a piece of fabric, a towel, or put it under a blanket.
The Tones can be placed close together for a more unified experience (for more of a sense of "oneness") or farther apart for a more open experience. Just keep them close enough to you so that you can hear them both.
If you want to feel the vibrations physically, you can hold them in your hands, or place them on your chest or your third eye, or wherever feels right. We just recommend that they not be played right next to your ears.
The speakers will turn off automatically when the sequence is complete; there is no need to turn them off manually. If you wish to play them again, just wait until the blue light turns off before pressing the "on" button.
What do the meditation speakers play?
Each 3-minute sequence actually offers a beginning, middle, and end. The tones were created by the co-founder of Solu, Michael Joly, on analog instruments he designed, playing with a purposeful sense of openness and lack of intentionality to keep every sequence free from melody. Each speaker plays a different sequence each time, so the overall experience is always new, but familiar.
The speakers are designed to always be played together. This creates a unified sound field, and a soothing sense of wholeness. You can never do it wrong; you can start one speaker first and then the other, or start them at the same time.
There is a natural interplay that occurs between the two speakers, which creates the full immersive experience and an unexpected variety of patterns. This is intentional, because it means that the mind cannot become trained to anticipate what's next; instead, it is encouraged to be in the present moment, experiencing each session as a new and unique experience.
The tones you hear will be different every time you play the two speakers together. To experience a sample of what this will sound like, please play the video below:
Why does the n.o.w. Tone Therapy System by solu play for only 3 minutes per session?
The Toneswere designed to offer quick access to peace and calm, giving you the benefit of 30 minutes of meditation in just a few minutes. The greatest benefit also comes by using the Tones regularly, which is much easier with such a small time commitment. Three minutes is all you need, but if you want to play them again afterwards, just wait until the blue light turns off and then hit the power button again.
How often do the speakers need to be charged?
The speaker batteries are charged using a standard USB cable; when they are done charging, the light will go off. They hold their charge for at least 60 sessions. You do not need to wait until the battery is fully gone before charging. Feel free to charge once a month or as needed.
Do the speakers connect to Bluetooth?
The speakers are designed to operate without any outside technology, meaning no other screens, wires, or devices are needed. They do not connect to Bluetooth and are intended purely as meditation speakers.
