A West Coast-based bakery chain is expanding with its second location in Austin this summer. SusieCakes will open in the Clarksville neighborhood at 1111 West Sixth Street starting on Friday, September 6.

SusieCakes is known for its vibrant decadent layer cakes, available in flavors such as the Celebration, a vanilla-sugar confetti cake with light blue vanilla frosting; the Luscious Lemon, a vanilla cake with lemon curd and vanilla buttercream exterior; and the Southern Red Velvet. Then there are cookies, sandwich cookies, key lime pies, and catering. The Clarksville SusieCakes will offer special Hook ‘Em-decorated cupcakes for the University of Texas at Austin’s Longhorns football games.

For SusieCake’s first day of service on September 6, it’ll give out free cupcakes to guests from 3 to 6 p.m. and free Longhorn cupcakes to people wearing burnt orange clothing. There will be a raffle too, where someone can win a year of free cakes. Owner and founder Susan Sarich will be there herself.

Sarich started SusieCakes in 2006 out in Los Angeles. The bakery expanded with locations in California and the Dallas-Fort Worth area; she actually moved herself, her family, and her business headquarters to Texas. The first Austin location opened in October 2022 out near Rollingwood on Bee Cave Road.

SusieCake’s Clarksville hours will be from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.. daily.

Other bakeries in the Clarksville neighborhood include Swedish Hill’s temporary outpost less than a block away (the bakery’s full iteration will reopen in late 2026 in a new mixed-use development).
